I think if there's nothing next week, it's safe to assume that there are completely no spots.

yeah. it truely is a frustrating process. they wanted all the health forms, financial aid application, and transcripts to be completed and sent in a week. after all that hassle, i feel ....i don't know. like everyone else said, i will give it another week.

good luck to you all

Anyone else anxiously waiting for Downstate instead of moving to another state to start orientation in two weeks?

no, if i was accpted into a school, i would go there, regardless of where it was, since i am not, i am waiting for downstate and planning to reapply. If i were you, i'd get the ball rolling on moving out.

Just be happy you are starting medical school and will become a doctor. For some of us, its downstate or nothing...and it's looking like nothing. I would go across the country right now to go to a medical school.

This whole process really sucks. My health insurance from work offically ended july 1st, since I quit my job to relax before starting the school year in medschool/ SMP program. So when I got the Alternate list package, I basically paid for a thousand dollar worth of shots and physical out of my own pocket. 😡

That really sucks, pacboy. In the previous years, most people got in off the alternate list. I've read some past threads and someone even called Downstate and was told that most alternates get in. I'm just really hoping that they are really busy or something (since they only finished sending post-interview decisiosn in june) and that there's a big wave of acceptances ahead. I just can't imagine them asking so many people to complete all the paperwork if no one is withdrawing.

i dont really know why... but i get the feeling that this year is different.

Yea, I've thought about that, but since I'm moving across the country for SMP, it would mean i have to pay a monthly of around 500. I hope Apparition is right though, I've check some of the old threads and there seems to be alot of movement in the past. Alternate list peopple were called since early June. For our year, I don tthink they even look at our application until July.

Maybe we need more of these on the thread: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Here's to that magic phone call, package in the mail, fed ex or whatever they want to send as long as its an acceptance to all of us.

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice. I'm in New York now, living with friends and want to be settled (sign a lease of my own). I found a place in Brooklyn near enough on the train for Downstate - if I'm not accepted off the alternate list this year, I'll be working there starting mid august. The only "problem" is it is $1100 a month. I know I can afford it while working, but.... as a medical student is it even theoretically possible?

Good luck to everyone. I'm with the pessimists in that I think, just somehow, for whatever reason, this year will not follow past year patterns.

good luck this week everyone....

werd. goodluck to you and everyone else. let's all hope for some mass acceptance calls.

Good luck everyone. This week has to be it.

Man...I have no clue on what's going on with Downstate. But yeah, they're going to have to make some kind of decision on us over the next two weeks.

I have a friend on the waitlist who you could add to the list.

There is probably >30 people on the alternate list. Why Downstate? Why?

On SDN alone, there's around 15. There is one spot open for sure, because I think one SDN member got off the waitlist at Tufts.

I think there were 205 people accepted about a month ago and now it's 185. That's what it sounds like from Downstate class thread.

That's the best news I've heard all day. I was affraid that they were too full that they woudlnt even touch the waitlist.

If you look through the Downstate class thread, you'll see where I got the info.

But isn't 185 the estimated entering class size according to the MSAR.

Yes but this means that as soon as someone withdraws, they will go into the waitlist. When it was 205 people, it was totally hopeless.

anyone else waiting on a post-hold decision?

this cant be good for me 😕

hey, are any of you having trouble finding a place to take the BLS provider course before august 1st? I'm having a lot, places around me are either only providing renewal courses or are booked well into august.

I took a renewal course (without knowing it) and it was fine. But make sure you study before (they'll give you material) because most likely the class will be pretty condensed and most people will already know how to do everything, and there's a test at the end.

anyone know how to check past years downstate threads???

Just an quick update on the other SUNYs since there seems to be a fair amount of shuffle between them. The SUNY-Buffalo thread has shown a little life. Someone was told that they're already at the bottom 3rd of the waitlist. But, it seems that Upstate and Stony Brook waitlists have yet to move.

Same here!! :scared: Are you a reapplicant too?

i recently called and they said that a few people got in off the alternate list so there has been movement so lets all keep our fingers crossed. Also the health service dept is taking quite a long time to transfer my cleared status to admissions so just to give everyone a heads up to constantly check up on it

Wow. When did you guys interview? It's really strange for a school to still not have reviewed an application at this point. It's only 3weeks before they start.

Correction: Less than 3wks, they start on 8/15 according to this calendar off google.

I'm not a reapplicant yet, but I'm sure on my way to being one...

And for those of you wondering, I'm on hold...so they have reviewed it once...but not again for a waitlist/rejection.

oh, and i interviewed on 3/28...so it was pretty late in the cycle.

I recently called. They wouldn't say anything about the list to me, but said that they are still going by mail and haven't switched to phone calls yet.

Although, I have no idea given that I've talked to a few different people. It may just be them saying anything to get me off the line.

If they weren't just brushing me off this time, then be sure to keep checking your mail, it took 7 days for some people to get their waitlist notifications from mailout to reception. It's pretty insane if they're still using US Post at this juncture.

This doesn't seem very likely. In the previous years, they started calling in May. And when they do call, they ask whether you're willing to give up any other acceptances. They probably would've continued this...
