I just took a look at the old "SUNY Downstate Class of 2009" thread. It looks like people received acceptances off the waitlist as late as August 3rd or possible later.

Anyways, to all those who don't have acceptances elsewhere, I justed wanted y'all to know there's still a chance. Just be patient.

BAD NEWS!!! 👎 The admissions office emailed me back and informed me that the entering class is currently full and that we (hold listees) are being reviewed for the alternate list.....

Killing me softly dude! Killing me sooo softly! :scared:

Addendum: I just emailed the admissions office regarding the status of the class and what are our possibilities off of the hold list. I know someone else already did, but I just wanted to confirm. It's funny because when I called, they told me they didn't have that information, but to email them and I will receive an answer shortly. That's a little weird, but as soon as I get an answer, I will let you all know! :luck: :luck:

This really sucks but thanks for the update. I wonder how many people are on the list... i bet a couple of hundred.

What about the people that are on already on the waitlist. I guess this means they're going to go through that list before they get to the holdlist people.
 
Got the DHL package tonight informing me that the class is full and placing me on the alternate list. Good luck everybody else

Who's on the waitlist? I thought at this point there's only the hold.

CONGRATS DrKitty! But the continued waiting sux! I emailed them to find out if the list was ranked or not and if there was potential for alot of movement so I will let you all know. Did it come priority or with regular mail?
 
Does the alternate list notification come with medical forms as I've read they did it last year?

I believe the packages are being sent via the DHL Package Service (kind of like FedEx or UPS). So it probably won't be in your mailbox. Someone will have to sign for it. I hope this answers your question.

The package came in a big DHL envelope, but I don't know how it arrived (mail box vs signature in person). When I got home, it was in my apartment so my roommate either got it out of tyhe mail box or signed for it (at that point, I didn't care how it arrived 🙂 but what was in it 😳 ) The waitlist notification comes with health and financial aid forms, and other instructions. Hope this info helps and good luck to all of us :luck:
 
Seems like I should've posted weeks ago...just haven't had the time. I have been following everyone's comments. I'm on "hold" as well...since February actually. Dr.Kitty, how long have you been on hold before your move to alternate? BTW, Congrats on that...it's one step closer. I have called the admissions office numerous times as well and they've been evasive, to say the least. All I can do is affirm prior comments...that yes, the class is supposedly full at this point.

I interviewed on March 7th, and have been notified of the "hold" status on May 17th. So I have been on hold for a little over a month before I was placed on the alternate list. I was actually disappointed, because I thought a direct acceptance was an option from the hold status. Good luck :luck:

COMPLETELY BUMMED! Admissions just emailed me and informed me that I should be expected a status letter within the next two weeks. :scared: That can't possibly be good! I'M DONE! Throwing in the towel for 2006 and looking at a new 2007 AMCAS to fill out! ::SEVERE SIGH::

Vivacious, maybe it's nothing.

Was the e-mail addressed specifically to you or was it a generic e-mail?
Did you inquire about your status via e-mail?

Don't give up yet! Why would they give you a heads up for a rejection. This is really strange...

Dont give up yet! I think it may be just an update on the hold list. I called them yesterday and they told me that they were trying to get a final verdict on the hold list people and that we all should hear something by mid July.

Kind of like the did post-interview -- sent an e-mail that decisions will be going out in a few weeks.

Awwww, Thanx or the optimism, all of you! I was writing them in regards to the waitlist because I wanted to know if it was ranked, and what the movement was looking like for this year. They told me that they won't know anything about the list until mid-july. So, I told that them I haven't heard anything regarding my status yet, but when I do, and if necessary, I will contact them in july for more info. They responded by telling me that I should be receiving a, "status letter by two weeks."

I don't know anymore. It wasn't a generic status update, It was personalized. I didn't even ask for it. So that's why I'm thinking it's a rejection. Oh well.....

It sounds totally generic. They wanted to end the correspondence by giving you an approximate date. I doubt they even looked at your file. This is probably their standard response to all calls/e-mails at this point.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking now! I called the admissions office just because I wanted to clarify the email. They couldn't give me a definitive answer but they did say that all files are being reviewed right now and there are ALOT of files and that a decision has not been made on my application yet. I'm still gonna start studying for the MCAT and work on my AMCAS, just incase. Expecting the worst and hoping for the best in my case. :luck:

Just out of curiosity, when do you plan on submitting your new AMCAS? I'm still waiting on downstate along with a couple other waitlist. I dont want to spend a bunch on new applications, but then I dont want to submit my application too late either.
 
i'm in the same boat, but i'm thinking downstate may be my best chance, it seems there's more movement in general on their waitlists then others. But i'm not banking on it, so i've already submitted the amcas for the next go around and i'm also studying to retake the mcat in august, not something i ever wanted to do again.

I'd advise people who are re-applying to just get those applications into the AMCAS as soon as possible and to apply to a lot of schools. Just remember, these application fees are drops in the bucket compared to having to wait another year or make alternate plans like MPH, OD, or FMC's.

I wasn't on the threshold like most people here, my only interview was SUNY-Downstate. Still, there's always hope!

Yeah, that was my approach when calling the office because I was frustrated at the fact that, if I potentially hear anything and even get an acceptance, (wishful thinking!) that all of that money's down the drain! (App fees, MCAT tutoring, etc!)

I think that I am going to submit AFTER the MCAT, like after the test is done, have the application ready and press submit! So I will A) know that Downstate didn't want me by that point and B) kinda gauge how I did on the exam. (Another wishful thought!)

But, it all depends upon your logic in the situation! I plan on applying to ~30 schools this time because for 2006, I only applied to 4. I did that because Downstate was my number 1 choice and I was placed on hold last cycle. I thought that now that I finished a MS I would definitely have a chance, but it doesn't appear so....

But, I wouldn't rely on the Downstate 2009 thread because it seems that the process has changed. I know last year, they put you on hold and the class wasn't full for a while. Now, it seems that the class is on overflow mode! Uhmm, I think that is the only major difference, but it can have a tremendous impact movement.

So I was bored and looked through mdapplicants.com to get an idea of hold outcomes in the past year, and it looks like about 50% used to get in after hold list. Why is the list not moving this year? 🙁 I hope they are not done sending out alternate notifications yet.
