hello all, 4 days after my interview, I get the wonderful news that I have been offered a spot for the Western/COMP Class of 2008!!! I'm truly excited and grateful for the opportunity to study something that I love (and wanted) so much! Thanks to everyone that gave me their advice and support. I'll be going to my upcoming interviews because I already made plans (and bought the tickets) to be there, but from now on I will only be considering those schools that seriously consider me, because I really enjoyed my time at Western and know that I can be happy there for the next 4 years.

Where are all my COMPers at???

Congrats Dr. Don. That was really fast. Welcome to the COMP family. 🙂

You can join us when we get together in April sometime so we can meet each other.

Congratulations.

Congrats Dr. Don! I've followed you since the days you were applying to the Class of 2006. I remember the day you got an interview at Drew/UCLA. Now you are going to be a dr. Congrats!

 congrats...

Western/COMP is my dream school...I hope I can get into that school 2 years later when I apply for med school for the first time. By the way, I am a newbie here, so I don't know much of your story. It seems like you have been through a lot to gain acceptance to med. school. Do you mind to share your experience with us, the new generation of pre-DO? 🙂

Man that's AWESOME!!! You must be flying high!   Congratulations!!!🙂 👍 🙂 👍 🙂

hey jojotuna, thanks for the support and trust me, I have been through a lot to gain my acceptance to med school. My story is quite similar to a lot of students from disadvantaged backgrounds who apply to med school. I attended a high school that was weak, yet I graduated with honors (not really anything to be excited about). I did not have the resources to go the university so I attended community college. I totally messed up my first year in college, because I just didn't know how to study and working 30-40 hrs a week didn't help either! My time managemente and study skills were weak! so slowly but surely I started improving and was fortunate to be able to transfer to UCLA. At UCLA, I really kicked butt in my classes and finished my science course work with a 3.5 GPA....unfortunately for me, that first year really hurt me and lower my GPA to about a 3.0-3.1. I took the MCAT the summer after I graduated (2001)and although I did fine in the sciences (10's), the verbal killed me (6). I learned english as a second language, but I never felt like english was a problem for me...until then! I applied to medical school (only allopathic) thinking....hoping that one school will take me. I interviewed at DREW and was waitlisted. Then after discussing my file with several admissions counselors, I decided to do a post bac to improve my application. I finished my postbac with a 3.8 GPA and retook the MCAT again, and again scored fine in the sciences, but my verbal was low! I applied hoping that with a new GPA things will be better, but nothing. I interviewed at 4 schools, waitlisted at 4 schools. During my post bac I met a DO and shadowed him. We discussed the osteopathic philosopy and how I can be a good fit there. I was truly excited and applied again to medical school. But this time I really researched every single school I applied to and applied to a few dream schools, and middle to lower tier schools, and Osteopathic schools. Out of 6 osteopathic schools I applied to I received 3 interviews and still under review at the other 3. THEN FINALLY I RECEIVED MY FIRST ACCEPTANCE! I'm really excited and I just can't wait to start medical school. I wish you the best of luck and hopefully when you do apply, I will be a med student there and can show you around campus and discuss with you how you can fit into the Western system. Honestly, after applying to medical school three times, the best advice I can give people is to go to the best school for you, not according to rankings or what other people think. Trust me Western is a fine school! Good luck to you.

AWESOME Dr. Don!!

Thank you so much for posting your story and for not giving up on what you believe in😀 .
