Hey, so I was going to go with private tutoring to raise my score and I've heard mixed things about Dr. Ross...he has a "goal score guarantee'' so if you don't get your goal score, he refunds your money back...but then I read a few old posts about him and people said it was a scam/not worth it??

Anyone recently work with him??

I was skeptical but apparently he said all his students improve and usually his guarantee is a 30 or 32 and last year he said 2 didn't improve and got refunded while the 50 other passed....

His references emailed me but what if they are just his friends?

Could just be him or his friends.

I'd be very skeptical. His email is a yahoo account

It will be better to sihn up for a course like the TPR or Kaplan instead of wasting money and prolly not get any good tutoring from Mr. Ross...

really, they say you will achieve your goal score or your money back?

what if my goal score is a 45?

If you are unsatisfied they WILL give you your money back or let you take the course again. Most people are too lazy to get the money back.

I thought Kaplan was a pretty big waste (live and learn) but I don't think their out to cheat people.

Kaplan is committed to your success. We stand behind our programs and your results with the Kaplan Higher Score Guarantee*.

If you feel you're not ready to take the exam, you can study with us again for free for the next test date or for three more months for computer-based tests, or

No matter how many points you improve, if you're not satisfied with your overall score, you can study with us again for free for the next test date or for three more months for computer-based tests, or

If for any reason you don't raise your overall score, you can study with us again for free or get your money back.
All we ask is that you meet our basic study requirements: Attend class, do your homework, and take all the required practice exams. It's that simple.

Kaplan is horrible because they won't give you your money back...they use the diagnostic score and everyone does poorly on that and then ends up improving that for sure....so unless you don't study at all and purposely go down...they rarely refund you...plenty of people retake the course, but online access to materials expires within a short time frame and they ask you to pay them like $500 to re-activate it..

i lol'ed

He's got stock photos...

That's all I got to say.

Yeah...I gotta go with this. Don't spend the money. Go with Kaplan or TPR if you're going to spend >$1,000 on your course. Not some dude on the internet who has his friends email you as references. Also a free site...if he can't afford to make his own site or have his own email, he's probably not doing too well, or he's greedy and only cares about money...

They don't guarantee that you'll get the score, they guarantee that you will only pay if you get the score.

When I contacted the company, one of the references was from someone who got the money back. I was shocked by that choice of a reference, but the guy who got the money back went from a 24 to a 32. The goal was a 35 for that student, so he got his money back, but he has great things to say about Karen (the tutor he worked with). I worked with Dr. Ross himself, but the tutors are great too from what I can tell.

Still sounds like some ****.

"Only a 32 and 8 point increase? I want my money back."

What did you get on the MCAT after working with him, btw?

Also, why wouldn't you make your goal a 35+ and just get your money back if you didn't hit it? Even if it's a stretch, you might as well push it as far as you can, after seeing that even goals in the 98%+ are honored. Get the most for your $.

All of my students score a 38 or higher. Only 2 out of 135 students last year scored under a 38 and got a full refund. I'm an MCAT expert*. Course is only $1995. PM me for paypal info.

* Not really an MCAT expert

That's where I started! My first e-mail stated my goal of a 35, and Dr. Ross asked me a ton of questions about my GPA, major, minor, college, jobs, study time per week, etc. He told me that in my timeframe a 30 was the best he could guarantee. He said I might get the 35, but that he would not bet on it. I was shooting for the May exam, then pushed it to June, then August. I finally took it in August, and I got a 31S. That was huge for me. I went from a 4 to an 11 in VR, and that pretty much sums it up.

Yeah, online tutors are sketchy, but this guy uses PayPal so I knew I could just cancel the payment if he didn't show up. I know that 90% of the ads on craigslist are scams, but 10% aren't. You get lucky sometimes, and all I care about is my 31. Boo Yeah.

Dude, the fact that you believe this crap is embarrassing lol.

You're right, I'm sure this guy totally takes your word on what you say when going about his FULL REFUND GUARANTEES. I mean, it's only his livelihood, why wouldn't he trust you? Wouldn't anyone with two brain cells just lie and say they were a 4.0 student blah blah blah and say they want a 36.. then score below that and get all of their money back?

Either you're somehow affiliated with this place, or you're the most easily manipulated person this guy could've found.

I'm going to tell my goal score is 35 and not 32....because I'm pretty sure, I'm not getting a 35....but lets see how much I can improve...

I am wondering the same thing. Are there any recent graduates of Dr. Ross's course that can shed any light as to the credibility of his course/ teaching method? I have taken the MCAT's 2x's with no real success, after taking a Kaplan course and preparing with all the other recommended materials and back tests. Any feedback would be most helpful in my decision to sign up with Dr. Ross and begin immediately in preparation for the 5/31/12 MCAT.

I did the full course from November to January - I would only recommend it if someone had already tried Kaplan or Princeton Review. Dr. Ross expects you to know a LOT about the MCAT before you take his course. He did not cover any of the basics, really just jumped right into very complicated techniques. They worked for me (I went from a 27M to a 33R - my goal was a 31) but I could imagine other people struggling. He tells a lot of stories about his other students, "Some people make this mistake, some people make that mistake" and that was helpful. Kind of hard to reach sometimes, but he's a great teacher.

Overall - good experience.

Dr. Ross is a fraud. Did not work one bit for me, glad to say I am currently in medical school, however that's because I completely studied my butt off, did not take any other prep course other than Ross and by then I already knew my Physics/Chem/Bio very well. Only thing I was struggling with was verbal and he didn't help me one bit. I struggled on it from day one but managed to get it up from simply reading and practicing passage after passage. Put bluntly, he's a fraud. If there's smoke, then there's flames, wish I would've taken some peoples' word on here but I was too enamored with the "guaranteed score."

Fake characters. From what I remember they don't even give their last names. He gave me a couple phone numbers from his "previous students" and they sounded like they were legit but who knows who they were...

Kaplan: Print all tests and answers before your online log in expires. Ask them if you have to take the real MCAT and get scored to get your money back. You will probably have to fill out paperwork if you want to retake Kaplan or get a refund (they don't offer it to you, you have to ask prior to a deadline).

Dr. Ross: Not familiar with him. Ask him for his plan to see if it will work for you. Test him out, ask him questions. Ask for a sample lesson. I don't see him in the Better Business Bureau or online scam alerts yet.

Well, he spent 4 sessions with me, each an hour long and depending on what "package" you get, the standard is in that range. All I have to say is, I don't give a DAMN who you are, 4 hours of tutor (plus practice he wants you to do) is no where near enough in order to raise someone's verbal score from a 5 or 6 to their "desired" score. One of the stupider decisions I've made in my life, you can PM me if you have any questions, although I do only get on here about twice a month, I will get back to you. If you're gonna get tutoring, get it in person.
