What's the typical dress code at most schools? It may not be official at every school but I imagine there's a certain 'style' to most of the dental programs and I'm just curious.

at penn, i remember them saying you could wear anything, even sweats, during the first 2 years. the last 2 years you have to dress professional. at pitt, they wear scrubs everyday. so it really varies from school to school.

I actually asked this question during my interview haha. They said there is no dress code, but on lab days you have to wear scrubs. So there was a big mix of people who looked normal, scrubby and actually in scrubs.

At Nova we will wear matching scrubs, the color of which depends on what year you are in. I'm not complaining, no asking the question "What am I going to wear today?"

Here at UNLV the current DS1 and the new class starting in september will be asking to wear only one colord scubs for their entire time here. So if you don't like burgandy, you are SOL. The current DS3 and DS4, can wear any colord scubs they way, but I do feel bad for the DS2 and DS1.

This is true. Some people wear scrubs half the time, others jeans, while others tend to dress up. In GRD (that's what our preclinical lab is called) the men are expected to shave and professional attire is preferred - good habits and good impressions start early - although I am usually the only one dressed up. We are graded on our appearance in there and I also want to be treated and viewed as a colleague rather than something that fell off of the undergrad wagon.

It seems like D1 students wear their street clothes to class and scrubs to labs (like anatomy..etc). D3 and D4 students seem to wear scrubs exclusively. At least this is from what I've observed at school.

You could probably get away with the chaps but scrubs... NO WAY! They don't let you wear scrubs at all.

Now allow me to explain myself: I never claimed to have the pre-dental message board comedy market cornered, nor did I intend to offend you with my previous comments. I simply did not find a reference to harlotry on the part of a dental professional, legal and moral issues aside, to be a very good joke. Also, what gave you the impression that my reference to Xenu was meant to be a joke? Are dentistry and scientology mutually exclusive? I don't think this forum is the appropriate place for attacks on organized religion. I won't say that I am a scientologist or that I'm not; the issue of whether you or I are members of said faith, or any other faith for that matter, is irrelevent. The fact remains that there are many who hold such beliefs and we need to respect their religious choices.
As for the formatting of your paragraph, I see no major problems with it as it is, though I found the excessive use of quotations to be a bit distracting. Also, your opening and closing statements need some work, but overall I think you've done an excellent job. A-
