What's the typical dress code at most schools? It may not be official at every school but I imagine there's a certain 'style' to most of the dental programs and I'm just curious.

at penn, i remember them saying you could wear anything, even sweats, during the first 2 years. the last 2 years you have to dress professional. at pitt, they wear scrubs everyday. so it really varies from school to school.

I actually asked this question during my interview haha. They said there is no dress code, but on lab days you have to wear scrubs. So there was a big mix of people who looked normal, scrubby and actually in scrubs.

At Nova we will wear matching scrubs, the color of which depends on what year you are in. I'm not complaining, no asking the question "What am I going to wear today?"

Here at UNLV the current DS1 and the new class starting in september will be asking to wear only one colord scubs for their entire time here. So if you don't like burgandy, you are SOL. The current DS3 and DS4, can wear any colord scubs they way, but I do feel bad for the DS2 and DS1.

I heard something while at Nova about us being able to dress up on some days, if we'd like. Kinda fun. Anyone recall hearing this?

Dr. Ancajas told me that each class was going to be color coded, is that true? Or do you not know?

This is true. Some people wear scrubs half the time, others jeans, while others tend to dress up. In GRD (that's what our preclinical lab is called) the men are expected to shave and professional attire is preferred - good habits and good impressions start early - although I am usually the only one dressed up. We are graded on our appearance in there and I also want to be treated and viewed as a colleague rather than something that fell off of the undergrad wagon.

Does anybody know if UCLA has a dress code? Or the colored scrubs depending on year thing? At my interview it seemed the 1st year student who interviewed me was pretty casual. Anybody know?

No. The current DS1s have dark blue as their scrubs. They will contiue with dark blue. The class of 2010 will get a color and they will use that for their tenure here.

What did Dr. Ancajas say exactly?

Good point Sprgrover!

exactly what you just said. I said each class will be color coded. I dont mean they change colors every year, i mean that they will have all different colors but each class will keep the same color their whole tenure.

and that is correct.

UCSF = scrubs or slacks/button shirt.

My vote? Scrubs every damn day!!! Yeah! One less decision to make in the morning!

So does anyone know what the scrubs rule is for nyu?

NYU should make every day full nanga day! What you think Mysteree? 😛

(translation of "nanga" - full suit boot)

It seems like D1 students wear their street clothes to class and scrubs to labs (like anatomy..etc). D3 and D4 students seem to wear scrubs exclusively. At least this is from what I've observed at school.

Indy, you're absolutely shameless! I'm sure you'd love that. You're very badmash

You could probably get away with the chaps but scrubs... NO WAY! They don't let you wear scrubs at all.

When I interviewed at UNLV, they said the men didn't have a choice. They were forced to wear a showgirl outfit with burgundy leotards. The DS1 girl who gave us the tour was just wearing jeans so I don't think this applies to women. 😕

That's cool man, at least you get to play slots and smoke cigarettes while working on patients. That's a pretty big bonus.

I'm not really sure how to respond since your statement doesn't make sense..."SDN stand up king such as yourself"? Somehow I'm guessing that high school grammar wasn't your best subject.

Okay let me break it down for you. SDN stands for Student Doctor Network. "Stand up king" means a king of stand up comedy or someone who is very talented at the comedic art. "Such as yourself" refers to you, Hermey the Elf. Basically, in a "smart ass" manner, I was referring to you as the SDN king of comedy because of your comment. Also, feel free to grade my paragraph as I hope it meets the MLA standards which you seem to be so good at. Oh, and "High School Grammar" was not one of my classes I took in high school, so sorry if I'm not too good at it.

I really appreciate you taking the time out of your busy day to respond in such a thorough, yet verbose manner. Now allow me to explain myself: I never claimed to have the pre-dental message board comedy market cornered, nor did I intend to offend you with my previous comments. I simply did not find a reference to harlotry on the part of a dental professional, legal and moral issues aside, to be a very good joke. Also, what gave you the impression that my reference to Xenu was meant to be a joke? Are dentistry and scientology mutually exclusive? I don't think this forum is the appropriate place for attacks on organized religion. I won't say that I am a scientologist or that I'm not; the issue of whether you or I are members of said faith, or any other faith for that matter, is irrelevent. The fact remains that there are many who hold such beliefs and we need to respect their religious choices.
As for the formatting of your paragraph, I see no major problems with it as it is, though I found the excessive use of quotations to be a bit distracting. Also, your opening and closing statements need some work, but overall I think you've done an excellent job. A-
Lastly, I think we need to consider putting this flame war to rest before the powers that be decide to do it for us. As a show of good faith, here is a cookie.

Thank you for the cookie, I am willing to put this to rest. I am still however very proud of my harlotry. What's so wrong with spreading my love to anyone who feels maybe a little lonely or deprived or just plain horny?
