why do people keep bashing drexel? I mean look at their match list from last year..pretty friggin good...what's wrong with the school? also, could someone with a 3.2 and 32 from an extremely respected school, especially for premeds, have a shot there? thanks all you future stars:cool:

I can't really answer the Drexel bashing part... maybe it has to do with all the affiliation changes and stuff in the past (MCP, Hahnemann, Allegheny [I think at one point?], now Drexel... etc). Look, if your goal is to be a doctor, then any medical school will do. If you are interested in academics or in obtaining some killer MGH / Hopkins residency, it probably helps to go to a "stronger school." But hell, I know of some MCP/Hahnemann grads that did their residency/fellowship at Harvard, Hopkins, etc. so really med school is what you make of it.

Anyway I'd say you have a very good shot, considering that all else is strong on your profile (LORs, ECs, etc).
Good luck!

My stats are quite similar to yours and I have been accepted to Drexel. Although, my undergrad school has a very good "relationship" with Drexel. I liked the school when I visited and I would choose it over some other schools that I have interviewed at.

I don't know what's up with the Drexel bashing either. I liked the school a lot when I interviewed, and whatever instability was in its past (before Drexel took over), my impression is that it's solid now. I've been accepted there as well, and I'd choose it over some other schools too.

I think it's about the past bankruptcy. It's a good school, unfortunately a lot of the faculty had to leave around the bankruptcy, but it's more institutional politics/business than you and I would care for. But the school's stable now and like any school, there's always turnover (hopefully the good stay and the bad leave). I got in and would've gone if I hadn't gotten into my state school. Personally, I think for a private school, it doesn't have that national reputation. I'm from Texas and Texans don't know anything about Drexel/MCP/Hahnemann, makes for a painful Thanksgiving dinner conversation explaining the school. But that's not a good reason to reject a school. MCP/Hahnemann is regionally very well respected in the tri-state area at the very least. Philadelphia is very tough city for med centers. You've got Penn, Temple, and Jefferson. And Drexel's undergrad is located next to Penn. It's a fairly big shadow. Plus the east coast is filled with old schools with reputations dating back. MCP/Hahnemann has a rich history and there are a lot of people who respect it. The bashing is just something to past the time; most people would be happy/thankful to just be able to go to med school.

Well said lowbudget - I liked the school and got in and I have to say, when I got the letter I felt like a million dollars.

I interviewed early and got a very quick acceptance, and I was really happy to be accepted. Their letter is so incredibly nice, too. Hard not to like a place that likes you so much - :) Honestly, I was becoming afraid I would even interview anywhere, so to actually get in somewhere is incredibly wonderful.

I have a ton of other schools still to hear from but the only reason I wouldn't go to Drexel would be if I got some great deal from my state school money-wise, or if Yale decided they really needed my presence, or something like that.

Drexel has the makings of a really great school and going forward it seems really well poised to take off with a solid reputation. As for the financial aid, it just needs to build a stronger endowment and get more alum $$. This can change over time.

I think the bashing has to do with the fact that Drexel is not highly ranked or very selective, so Drexel (and NYMC and a few others) end up being everyone's safety school. I'm sure the bankruptcy issue has something to do with it, but it seems like they're doing OK financially now. Regardless, I really loved Drexel, and I'd choose it over a lot of other schools on my list.
