Drexel DPMS 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My sincere apologies Bud.

I don't think anything is wrong with your app, use the IMS to boost yourself in the areas you may be lacking and I'm sure we'll walk the hospital halls doing rounds someday.
I'm trying to keep positive, re-phrase, I'm waitlisted at 3 schools so I HAVE to stay positive.

As far as DPMS, I sent in my app mad early so (theoretically) I should hear something soon as well ..Thanks for the luck!! :xf:

Hey, thnx for the encouraging words...I'm kinda like u.."Optimist"...so I'm gonna make the best of what i got.....we'll definitely be walking the halls of top hospitals someday😉

HOpe u get picked from one of those waitlists..will keep my fingers crossed for u:xf:...and also best wishes for the DPMS as well...🙂

Hey Wish Dr how did you find out about your status? Email, mail, phone call?

Got an email today from Drexel University Medical Sciences Programs, I don't think anyone calls to report 'rejections'. G'luck👍

Sorry to hear about that, but the reason they probably passed on your app is because you qualify for IMS and have already been granted admission into that program. Good luck with IMS!

The email says that I'm still being reviewed for IMS or MSP...dats funny coz I got accepted to IMS back in Dec....anyways...thnx for da wishes and g'luck to u as well👍

So i sent my application on 3/11 and have yet to hear anything. I still have to send my official transcripts and the committee letter but I was waiting for them to send me the pre-filled cards (so that I at least know that they have received part of my application).

Should I call and find out if they've received my application?

I would send in your material and call. You want to have your application completed as soon as possible. They may be backed up and not have time to send stuff out.

I agree, it's getting late in the game, I would suggest you get your LORs + Grades in ASAP and call Dr. Walker (or Ms. Hill) to confirm when those are in.

Here's a Q for some of us who have been complete for a while, any interview-invites out yet?

UPDATE:: I (just) called Med Admissions and got it straight from the horse's mouth that first-round invites are to go out late this week or early next ..Brace yourselves folks! :xf:

Once I send everything in, should I expect an email saying that my file is complete?
Also, does anyone know the the interview dates? I think i remember reading that they had some in late april, mid may, and late may? please correct me if im wrong

For the DPMS program, all interviews are by telephone correct?

Ok, thats strange then. I applied to the DPMS program but I have a phone interview scheduled :/
I'd rather do the DPMS program instead of IMS (although either oppurtunity is welcomed). Should I call the school to clarify this and ask why or just go with the flow?

When I spoke to someone In the office over the phone they said that if we were choosen to interview it would be by phone.

IMS interviews are by phone but DPMS interviews are in person.

I'm pretty certain that they're personal interviews.
Did anyone attend any of the Info sessions held by Dr. Walker? She was quick to state that DPMS acceptance was (conditional) Med acceptance, therefore EVERYTHING is done the same, obviously except with the app and the admission criteria ..Hence, the interviewers and the interviews are just the same as MD applicants.

Any Veterans care to chime in on this?

I got an email describing DPMS and inviting me to attend an "Information Session" for DPMS. Weird.

The posts from last year's thread say that if they don't think you're a good fit for DPMS, they will consider you for other programs.

I just did too.
Not to worry, I think it was just one for the masses due to the mention of deadlines, info sessions and such. 🙂

From what I understand, if you check all three boxes when sending in your application, you will be placed on review for all 3 programs (MSP, DPMS, IMS)

Does anyone plan to attend the info session mentioned in the "mass" email?

Just to offer my 2-cents about the Info sessions, def attend one if you can.
I did, way back in October and it was a great opportunity to meet Dr. Walker (from whom you need a nod just to get your app to committee) and to ask questions about the program that you've been itching to ask.

In summary, if you're thinking about it, Go for it! 👍

Was the dress code formal or regular when you went to the info session?

Was the dress code formal or regular when you went to the info session?

I went somewhat formal; a nice pair of dress pants, a shirt and tie minus the jacket BUT the few other guys that were there were dressed down.
The girls, while it's trivial for me to figure out whether they're dressed up, looked decent ..I did spot a few people with jeans on.

Does anyone know when the summer session ends? And when would we start again in August?

I got an interview invitation, too.
Is it possible to find out which track I'll be interviewed for?

Hey Congrats! i just got an invite for an interview too! The interview is the same for both tracks, if you have and MCAT of 24+ you would be in track 2, if not track 1. (i know bc i also interviewed last year, lol) Good Luck! 😉

Thank you. There're 2 airports in Philadelphia, right? May I ask which airport is nearer to the school?

Hey congrats!
Hopefully I'll be interviewed on April 27th, my preferred date.

@aquanaut Not sure yet, i have to check with my job

@athens i only know of PHL the international airport, unless u mean the airport in the NE, which is really far. PHL is in FAR south philly and the school is in FAR west philly, they are pretty far apart.

Hey congrats!
Hopefully I'll be interviewed on April 27th, my preferred date.

I'm going for the 20th, the first available date ..Just to get it over and done with 😛

@BabyDoc: I see... How long does it take to drive from PHL Inter'l Airport to Drexel?
What should I know before coming to the interview?

@Aquanaut: Good luck to you!

I got a invite today as well. Im thinking about April 22. Anyone else doing this date?

The interview is nothing to worry about, and you can't really prepare because everyone is interviewed by different faculty members. My interview went great last year and my interviewer told me he would recommend me for the program before I left. I know of someone who thought she did terrible on her interview because her interviewer asked her a bunch of biochem questions she could not answer, but she was accepted. You also meet with former DPMSers and other med students, I believe they give their recommendations to the committee as well, but meeting with them is informal.

I would say it takes about an hour, the school is not the easiest to find, and there's ALWAYS traffic.

I got an interview invite also, but I'm not holding my breath lol. I've gotten alot of interviews followed by rejections :/ (just my luck I guess)
I just requested for the April 20th interview date as well Aquanaut so I guess I'll see you there! Does anyone know how many applicants they interview and accept per class?

@spacedoc
I think it varies, supposedly only around 33 students are accepted, independent of their track. But they only have room for like 28, they want their class as small as possible. They only waitlist 2 or 3 and they don't usually take the waitlisted applicants..lol i know 4m experience🙄...also i heard the current class is doing terrible:scared: so idk if they will change criteria for this year. I think i'm goin 2 to go 4 the 20th as well!

Interview invite too! 😀
Congratulations to the both of you! ..What day did you guys decide on?

I got an interview invite yesterday as well, sooooo excited and verrry grateful! This is my first interview and first time coming to PA, so I have a slew of questions...the most pressing being where do I keep my luggage if I am flying back the same day? LOL Secondly, any suggestions on where to stay past interviewees? I am thinking the Moving Arts Bed and Respite right now and I've chosen 4/26 as my date so I am willing to double up on a cab ride from the airport if anyone else is coming in on 4/25. Best of luck to everyone and congrats!😀

The current class of DPMS is doing badly? WOW!
That can't be good! I wonder why :/

Whoever is selling you that trash about this year's class doing terribly is an idiot.

Anyways, I've gotten some pms for interview pointers so here are my 2 cents:

1) while it's true that there is no real way to prepare for a particular interviewer, there's a very standard way to prepare for a med school interview so do it. (issues, your motivation, etc) DPMS is a med school interview.

2) From the words of a dean: if your interview is going TOO well (talking about fun stuff, happy go lucky feeling, etc) that's not a good sign. Try to politely and tactfully convert it to a serious interview and you will not be forgotten. Dont be one of those "but it went SO well" rejects.

3) 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀 Look approachable 😉

4) Questions, questions, questions. You MUST have multiple questions for your interviewer.

Wishing you the best folks, cant wait to see the next platoon in June!!

Hey cornflakeschkn,

Does the current DPMS class study or roomate together or is it more or less a solo act for everyone getting through the program?

I recommend the Crown Plaza Main Line. It was the cheapest one I could find that is really close to Drexel College of Medicine (about 3 miles) The Price::: around $100 a night. Their number is .215-477-0200.. Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,

I got the rejection email like in early March. I called them and asked them why...but Ms. Walker doesn't even know why. I'm thinking it's b/cc i'm from Texas and they want someone in the NE region. Good luck to everyone.

I turned down the Creighton Post Bacc interview b/c it's too expensive.

I got into an SMP here in TX. So i'm happy it all worked out.

good luck to everyon!

Spacedoc, generally people start out the summer program studying together and later end up going solo. Starting the program with a study group is great b/c you pressure each other to stay on top of the material (there's ALOT) and you find out what study technique works best for you. As the year progresses and you get comfortable with your proven study style, you'll likely end up studying on your own cause it saves alot of time. This was my experience and that of alot of people in DPMS.

We'll discuss this with you in detail in the summer. This is one of the best aspects of DPMS - the alumni guidance.

Hey guys, I have been following the posts, but haven't really made any. Do invitations for interviews come through the mail or by email?

Congrats to those who got interviews!

I got an interview invitation...why does any you want to be doctors?

Hey someone asked this earlier but i didnt see a reply.

Does anyone know the approximate dates of the summer portion of DPMS? Starting mid june ending ____?? Starting Fall semester: _____?

Even last years' dates would be helpful!
Thanks!

Not you BabyDoc, I meant to the guy "xtangk" question
