Does anyone know if the earliest interviewees were informed of a decision earlier or did they get their acceptances/denials in June with the May interviewees?

Everyone was informed of acceptance on 5/29/09 as far as I know. Earliest interview was conducted in March with teh bulk happening last week of April, early May and a couple in late May.

Good luck and keep posting everyone! It is cool to hear your stories and questions, reminds me of of when I was in the same position.

This would be a great question for Dr. Walker, our program director. It would also give you a great opportunity to introduce yourself if you like.

Thanks, I have tried calling but seem to always get her voicemail, but I will continue to try. I was just wondering if anyone that is applying or has already went through the program had any experience with this themselves.

As far as the class requirements (psychology, sociology and philosophy), does anyone know if they will accept any others in place of these?

It depends...the class has to be an eqvailent version of whatever they are asking for. When you send in your transcript they will let you know whether the class counts or not.

Oh okay, kool, thanks for the reply....

Hey guys! Would love feedback from current DPMSers as to how true this is. Ive been reading on a couple of the posts that DPMS has a gpa maximum cut off and doesnt accept students beyond that score. I hear 27 in some posts and 24 in others. I have a 2.9 gpa but 28 MCAT, will my MCAT score disqualify me? .

I heard something like this as well (not sure if those were the exact numbers) but I'm not sure how reliable that information is.....

There is no max or predefined combo of GPA or MCAT that will get you disqualified but if, for example, you're a traditional with a 3.6+/27 1st timer, they'll wonder why you are applying since you could very well get accepted to medschool with those numbers, especially if you're a minority. Of course the final decider is your story: who you are and why you should be considered disadvantaged.

The majority of students in the program have superb academic records but repeatedly low MCATs, btw.

Honestly guys, after having been through this, I urge not to worry about the numbers. Concentrate on separating yourself from the riffraff and showing them your personal and academic strengths. Avoid sob stories and convince them that you overcame/will overcome whatever made you disadvantaged if given the opportunity with DPMS.👍

Do you have to maintain a B in EVERY course, or B average OVERALL, to get automatic admission? If admitted into Drexel SOM, will you have to retake the medical courses you take during DPMS?

How is DPMS vs. GEMS program? Can someone plz list some of the pros and cons of each?

1) must maintain a 3.0 overall with no individual class below a C. A C- would not be considered a C. 2) If admitted, I only know of testing out of biochem; not sure about the other classes. However, as nkb pointed out, you're better off retaking them all anyways b/c it's great practice for the boards. 3) I wouldnt say each has pros or cons. They are just different and for different people. GEMS forces you to participate thru required attendance while DPMS has a more independent feel to it. GEMS does not guarantee acceptance and makes you re-interview to get into GUSOM (although it has nearly an 80% matriculation rate) while DPMS has contract-based guaranteed admission with no re-interview. GEMS has a family-like environment while DPMS is more individualistic, imo. GEMS doesnt make you retake MCAT while DPMS requires an 8p/7v/8b. DC is more expensive than Philly. It's back n forth really.

I know that DPMS starts the second week of June. Do you know when the GEMS program starts?

For the DPMS year I know you are not allowed to apply to any other AMCAS schools besides Drexel but does anyone know if you can apply to Texas Med Schools or Osteopathic Schools?

I dont think anyone can answer this question factually since no one would ever ask this question to anyone at Drexel lol.😀 My assumption is that it would also not be allowed since DPMS is an early assurance program. I can definitely appreciate wanting to be closer to home tho.

I wish I had come up with cornflakeschkn as my name :/
Random thought......
Anyways, I'll be applying to this program as well so keep up the posts people!

You can't apply to any other medical school including DO schools during the program. When you get accepted you have to sign a letter agreeing to that conditions.

lol, I almost went with dasmacksfrog but I was literally eating cornflakes so go figure....good luck on the app.

Hey guys....anyone hear anything yet or is it still too early?

Hey guys....anyone hear anything yet or is it still too early?

I sent my app in Oct. Last thing I heard from them was..
"Your application to the Drexel Pathway to Medicine program is now complete and will be forwarded to the admissions committee for review."
so at the least expect that email from Ms Hill.

^ oh okay...yea, I sent in my application in Jan and I am still waiting for one of my recommenders to send in my letter and then I will be complete (He is taking FOREVER!!!).

My life was crazy till I was maybe 5 and then when I started college till now bc of my parents drug use. I am white so I would be applying as economically disadvantaged. Would it be ok that it wasnt the twhole time I grew up? Also how stringent are they on the GPA? I have a 2.8 between undergrad and some postbacc stuff and then a 38 on the MCAT. Would the MCAT/GPA combo disqualify me?
Thanks for your feedback.

@Drhopeful2009: A 38 MCAT is awesome! What's your postbacc GPA? Why don't you apply to med schools?

Hey guys,

I worked full time and helped my parents financially for the past year. I would give them half of my earnings during every paycheck i got. we weren't "economically disadvantaged" for my entire life, but this past year has been extremely rough on us. would this be a legitimate reason to apply to this program? I have a 3.4 gpa, graduated last may, and taking my mcats on april 23. I didn't take it earlier because I was working 50-55 hours a week.

I am applying as well with little luck. Postbacc is about a 3.5 but its just not enough to overcome the undergrad GPA it seems. No interviews yet this year and only a few re-review by schools.

Quick question -

I read that for the LOR, there is an option to send a composite letter from your university instead of individual letters. Can this be the same composite letter that I used when I applied to medical school this cycle, or should I ask the committee to rewrite it specifically for the DPMS? I didn't see anything about this on the thread, and was wondering if anyone knew anything about that? If not, I'll go ahead and e-mail the school! Thanks ya'll 🙂

You can still try and apply but in all honesty if you weren't economically disadvantaged for the majority of you childhood or a good portion of your life they may not consider you. As for the gpa I would suggest that you call the office and ask to speak with Dr. Walker, she is the director of the program. Maybe with your high mcat score she will overlook it. If you have a compelling story for why you have a low gpa that may also help sway the decision.

Struggling for a year doesn't really count as we are in a recession and that has made things difficult for many people. If you are a URM then you don't have to be economically disadvantaged. Also you might want to call the office and see if taking the mcat on April 23rd is not too late. Your application isn't complete until they have all your information including your mcat score, that means they won't even review it. So if you're not taking it until April that means you won't get your scores until May and that may already be too late.

Yes you can use the same letter.

Just a quick question for those that are currently in the program or those that have gone through it, when are interviews then acceptances offered?

I guess what I'm asking for is a basic timeline of what happens next, after app submission?

To follow up on my earlier post..

I called Ms. Walker today and apparently she doesn't send out interview invites, the Medical school does? 😱
I did however send my DPMS app to her and not the Queen lane campus, I'm confused!

Hey Dr. Walker reviews the apps and the ones with her endorsement get screened by the med school. The med school then does further screening, sends invites and makes final acceptance decisions.

Yeah, that's what she said to me but I just couldn't understand it at the time.
She asked me to wait for them to send me the invite so at least I got her initial endorsement, I guess. 😛

I also opened up Banner, the system used by Drexel Med, and my DPMS app was on there as well ..I assume now the wait begins! :xf:

I just checked my 'Banner ID" as well, and yes the DPMS app is there but no decision yet....

does anyone know when they start sending out interview invites?

G'luck everyone👍

Last year the first round of interviews were in april then again in may. i spoke to ms walker last week and she said she is still waiting to hear from the admissions committee about the timeline for the interviews
i interviewed last year and was wait listed, but hopefully this year will be my lucky one! :xf:
ps.. a good time to reach her is at noon, everytime i call she seems to be in her office!

Interviews started last year as early as the end of march and went all the way up until the 3rd week in May. It doesn't matter how early you interview because you won't be notified of a decision until all the interviews are complete. You'll basically have about a wk or 2 between the time you get accepted and when you need to be in Philly to start the program.

For those who have been able to log into to Drexel's "banner ID" how did you obtain your login info. Is that something provided by the DPMS office. Please let me know - I am trying to get the status of my application ( I've had a difficult time getting in touch with the office).

Thanks!

Thanks for the info!!! I'm going to find a place in Philly pretty soon anyways, coz i have already been accepted to the IMS and for me its just between IMS and DPMS (if I get accepted) at this point....so either way...i'll be in philly...

Thanks again...i'm crossing my fingers for an interview:xf:

Thank you for your response - I will call Ms. Walker tomorrow.

Hey guys, not to sound like some pretentious dickhole, but it's Dr. Walker not Ms. Walker. She's a doctor of pharmacology. Just trying to save youse some awkwardness.😀

My sincere apologies Bud.

I don't think anything is wrong with your app, use the IMS to boost yourself in the areas you may be lacking and I'm sure we'll walk the hospital halls doing rounds someday.
I'm trying to keep positive, re-phrase, I'm waitlisted at 3 schools so I HAVE to stay positive.

As far as DPMS, I sent in my app mad early so (theoretically) I should hear something soon as well ..Thanks for the luck!! :xf:

Sorry to hear about that, but the reason they probably passed on your app is because you qualify for IMS and have already been granted admission into that program. Good luck with IMS!
