that was my whole point in getting things done early, now i'm stuck back in the middle w/ everyone elses *better* app

welcome to the club of getting in early but because of someone else, you are now in the middle with everyone else.

I got into Loyola a few weeks ago, so the celebratory drinking has already subsided, unfortunately.

I loved Loyola, but Drexel has its perks too (specifically, it would put me closer to my family). They are very different schools.

And, really, I'm just feeling greedy lately and want multiple acceptances. :meanie:

Congrats on Loyola. It's not being greedy to hope for multiple acceptances. I'm certainly hoping for them. Variety is the spice of life, right?

just don't tell them I told you to, otherwise someone will eat my file and they'll say who are you? you're not in the system. Is this a crank call?

Thanks, man. I hope we all get multiple acceptances. It'll keep things exciting...

I'll settle for like, eight acceptances ok? Nothing less!

(I really just want acceptances to an my state school (UMD), and a DC school. In an alternative reality I'll take a Hopkins acceptance too!)

why do you think your chances are gone now? you are not rejected. you already interviewed. they just haven't been able to review your file yet. you still have a chance!! compared to other people who are scheduling their interviews in march etc.

ah man im so sorry...i thought we would pull through this together...

don't worry...they aren't going to reject you....they should accept you especially after all this!!!!!!!

Yes you are right. I shouldn't have said that. I do have a chance. It's just really frustrating applying super early, interviewing super early, and then having the file sit on my reviewers desk for months. But there are others in this same position, so i just have to roll with it.

Good luck on your interview.

so if you won't be reviewed for 2 weeks....that's means i won't be reviewed for at least 2....and therefore it should be about 12 weeks when i get any news.....spectacular....and yes, i agree, and advantage is gone now that we are being reviewed w/ the late november, possibly december ppl instead of the late sept. early october ppl like we were supposed to 😡

This is absolutely crazy. I feel bad for you too bepony - I interviewed on Sept 20 and still haven't heard a thing. I called about a week and a half ago and they told me that my file was ready to be reviewed by the committee...I don't know or care if that has happened at this point. I interviewed at my state school on Friday and should hear from them within 6-8 weeks - that's all I care about at this point. Screw that. There is no reason why they should give a 4-6 week window at Drexel and even tell us that there is a good chance it will be earlier than that because we were interviewing so early in the season...it's been over two months now since I interviewed...totally nuts if you ask me.

Sounds like I should be glad I haven't been offered an interview (yet).

here's the question -- if you get one, will you go? i haven't heard anything from them either, but i'm really disappointed with how they're treating their interviewees. i could see myself declining the interview -- i'm wondering if this attitude is indicative of how the school treats their students in general.

Im sorry VPD, i totally didnt realize you were still waiting also (and longer than me and CP have). I hope you get into your state school (which state is it?) so you dont have to worry about Drexel. I just hope that when they review our applications, they will give us some credit for applying early and interviewing early. Maybe it will be that one extra vote from the committee that will pull us over the edge into the acceptance range. Good luck!!!

BTW, did you call and make sure you were not reviewed last thursday?

No, it's not. The school treats students FABULOUSLY. I feel for all of you, and it's frustrating, but I have to point out that the school itself isn't to blame. If whoever reviewed your application is late to get everything to the committee, that's their fault, and yeah it sucks for you, and I feel for you, but how can you blame the school?

I haven't met a single Drexel student who isn't very happy with the administration. The school goes to great lengths to listen to student input, to cater to the students in every way. That's one of the biggest strengths of the school. The admissions office isn't rude when you call them (though they do have instructions to not ever give acceptance info over the phone), right? The committee meets each week and does its best to keep up. But they can't force evaluators to return evaluations on time. I mean, who here delt with professors who kept just not writing LORs? I know I did. I'm sure it's similar with whoever reviews applications; even if they're repeatedly contacted they may not do it in a timely fashion.

Yes, I'm strongly defending the school. This whole process is extremely frustrating (heck, I got waitlisted at Penn State over 9 weeks after interviewing, when I was told at my interview that I would hear in 6 weeks; and Temple hasn't even contacted me yet, over 3 months since being complete there!). I share in everybody's frustrations. But seriously, don't blame Drexel. Overall I think they do a pretty darn good job, considering the volume of applications they get. I heard in a reasonable amount of time, because I was lucky enough to get reviewers who sent in their info quickly. So if you want to blame somebody, blame the people reviewing your file.

edit: I'm still really rooting for those of you who haven't heard! Perhaps the committee will have compassion for you since you interviewed so early -- I hope so!

I haven't called to see if they reviewed my file last Thursday and I don't know if I am going to bother doing so at this point. My state school is UConn and I had what I thought was a pretty damn good interview on Friday, so hopefully that will work out for me. Good luck with everything.

UConn? CP is from CT too!!!!

I just got off the phone with someone from the admissions office..."A decision has been made...please allow us 3-4 weeks to get that information in the mail and sent to your address. Thanks."

Screw that.

yay! thats great. that means that they made the decision this thursday. i have no idea why it would take 3-4 weeks for them to send out a decision. just put the damn letter in the mail for godssakes!!!!

Yeah, that's the weird thing. It also took a while for my decision to actually come to me. I guess they're backed up with that. They should really hire somebody to do the mailing more often; as it is, supposedly the woman only comes in on Mondays and Wednesdays to mail out decisions. There really isn't an excuse for making somebody wait that long.

(btw, I just want to re-assert that this doesn't reflect the administration's general treatment of the students)

I understand what you are saying tigress, but I think in general stuff like this can totally turn an applicant off. Not me, of course, since I havent been fortunate to have an acceptance yet. But I think some people who have multiple acceptances will have a negative feeling about the school (even though as you say it is not the school's fault) and perhaps even choose to go someplace else.

I really really really liked Drexel when I was there and the wait has been the only negative part of my experience with them. That and e-mailing my interviewer with specific questions three times and not getting a single reply. But I understand that they are busy and I mark it off to that. No hard feelings here 🙂

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've almost decided to withdraw from Temple because of this nonsense, and because they are very rude on the phone. It certainly does affect my impression of the school.

I just felt like I had to defend Drexel. I mean, everybody is nice enough. For the most part, aside from not sending out the decisions quickly after they are made, a lot of the problems people are having seem to be due to individuals rather than the institution as a whole. So that's all I meant, really.

(also I probably just get defensive about the school since my husband is a student and I'm just being protective  )

dont worry, if i get an acceptance from them I will be jumping for joy and will forgive them for absolutely everything!!! even things that they will screw up in the future if i'm a student there!

but there are solutions. for one, if someone has a slow evalutor, the school should rush their review once the evaluation is in instead of just putting it in the pile with the other files. i'm not getting the impression that they do that. also, they seem understaffed, so they should hire more people. the volume of applications that they receive is not unexpected, so they know what they're getting into. on another note, what good is your interview evaluation going to be if the evalutor doesn't get it in until several weeks later? chances are they will barely remember you when they get around to doing the review.

it is good to hear that these problems don't affect students of the school, but it's still a turn off.

i just called them too prior to reading this thread. ack i'm just dying to know what their decision on my file is. i was practically tongue-tied trying to stop myself from blurting out "screw sending the letter, tell me what the decision is!" *wringing my hands*

this is also what i'm confused about. how is it not the school's fault? the slowness in responses is related to the admissions department and the evaluators that they select. they're all part of the school, and the school does have some control over that. so, yeah, i see it as the school's fault. maybe again it's not reflective of the school as a whole, but that doesn't mean they couldn't do better.

um. if they don't tell you what the decision is post-interview and just tell you you'll be getting mail soon... does that mean a rejection/waitlist? *gulp* i mean, i know it doesn't necessarily mean anything. but if it was good news, wouldn't they not worry about being "the messenger?" or am i just being more and more paranoid as the minutes pass?? does anyone know if there ever has been anyone who was notified of an acceptance by phone from drexel ever?

aw thanks tigress. i so needed to hear that. congratulations on your acceptance!

so i got an email on friday saying that the decision had been mailed out.

Its Monday...and I live in Pittsburgh. Do you think this means I still have to wait like the 4 weeks everyone else waits AFTER they say it has been mailed out...

does drexel hand it to small children who then walk cross country to deliver them?

small gnomes actually....gnomes w/ foxes, but the foxes aren't allowed to carry the letters, so they have to go at the slow gnome pace.....many people confuse these gnomes for children

and to curt:

good luck w/ UConn.....i really want to go there, but alas a dumb hold...and i thought i had nailed it this time

I think unless they say they have made a decision but haven't mailed it, you're fine.

He's actually the leader of other gnomes, he runs the postal service now. He hasn't delivered any letters since he hit it big in Hollywood....or Nick 🙂

anyway, i just called drexel, and they said my app will be reviewed on Dec. 1st, which i believe bepony has also heard. they said they will know a decision on tuesday, and will mail it out then....which i guess really means i should hear back around Christmas.....this better be the best present ever (aside from an xbox i'd like to buy myself 🙂 )

Thanks bepony...and yes, I am well aware that my initials are VD (venereal disease). That's why I always try to throw my middle initial (P) in there as well. It's been a rough life.
