I'm not sure how important student interviews are at other schools, but if you are interviewing at Drexel, they are very important. If you want to get into the school, don't act like it's a waste of your time (even if your interviewer is an annoying person that just talks and talks when you ask questions about the school) and don't act like you have 1000 other better places to be. As casual as it feels, you are being evaluated and being rude will make your score drop drastically.

I'm not sure what you mean, but we had a huge interview session yesterday with 40-50 interviewees here at school, and some of the volunteer interviewers of the day got together to talk about their experiences and we were really shocked by some of the people that totally blew us off with their body language and other communications while saying "Boy, Drexel, is a great school, I would love to come here"

Just wanted to inform interviewees that the student interview does count quite a bit here.

thanks for the info 🙂 i think it's great that some schools have student interviews. i'm excited to be able to ask questions to someone who might actually be able to answer them!

don't worry about indianboy. he's a troll.
"hope that helps."

At most schools, the student interviews are weighed just as much as the faculty ones. I think the student interviews are great. You can ask questions and get insight about the school from the student perspective.

I disagree. How can someone who has just started medical school be in the position to judge which applicants will be good doctors when they themselves are not even there yet?

The student interview score and the faculty interview scores are compared, and if there is a difference, they are heavily looked at.

It is actually quite easy to determine what qualities make great doctors-- anyone can. Heck, patients themselves (which a lot of us have been those) can tell! Student interviews (at least here) are closed application. We don't know what your MCAT score is, your grades, nothing! We are looking at people skills and if we think this person would be a good colleague for the future.

For example, in the case of a guy that comes in and can't stop looking at his watch, sighing and acting like he has 100000 places to be that are better than this-- do you think you would want to tell him your most personal details about your body? Probably not.

I just received my Drexel interview invite yesterday. It seems like they're really backed up for interviews, I'm waiting until monday to call tho. Do you know how long I can expect to wait. I read somewhere on here that one person can't get in until may 5th. Wouldn't that almost be a waste of time at that late in the season? How much do they look down on regional interviews? I was seriously considering doing a regional interview and just visiting the school when I'm in Penn interviewing at Penn State. Also any other advice about the process or where to stay while I'm out there would be great. Is there a student host program?
Thanks.

Hi Moskeeto.

I really don't know what the wait time is for interviews. May seems a little far off, but I can't speak for the admissions office. I know they try very hard to help get students interviews when they are in the area when travelling.

It's not a waste of time to interview here, especially if you are interested in the school. I know people that interviewed "late" last year and they are here now.

There is a student host program just ask for some names when you call tomorrow- see my thread about being thankful for your hosts and me getting berated. 🙂

PS: I have a friend at PSU Hershey, so if you have questions, PM me and I can send you her email.

I just called Drexel to schedule my interview and they did tell me that the first available date is May 5th. So is that basically like a waitlist kind of thing? They did say to call back at the end of January because they might get cancellations. How likely is that? The woman I spoke to just asked me my name and then told me to pick a day after May 5th. Then she quickly said to try calling back at the end of the month, and then she was like, okay bye now. It didn't even seem like she bothered to verify my name or write down my spot for May 5th (the day I picked). Oh, and what's with this regional interview thing? The woman didn't tell me anything about that. I didn't know they had them. Does anyone know more about this?

Is now the time where getting an invite to a school right now means your interview will be really late? Are most schools already booked for the next couple of months? Or is it just Drexel? I got kinda scared when she said May 5th. I was hoping to get a couple more interviews, but if all schools are like that then it doesn't look good for me.

Anyway, just wondering what the deal is with Drexel. Sorry for sounding all anal and pre-medy. It's early. Didn't have breakfast yet. 🙂 Thanks!

Yeah, i just got off the phone with her and got the same vibe that she didn't even hear my name and rushed on. Its kind of a bummer too, because I like Drexel. I'll call back Wednesday and ask about regional interviews.
I don't know if all colleges are backed up, i got an invite last week from Penn State for 2/14, so thats a hell of a lot better than 5/2. I can't get over that, may 5th. christ.

i think drexel is scheduling interviews further ahead than any other school. i got my interview invite december 9th and wasn't able to schedule an interview until march 12. some schools will schedule you like 2-3 weeks after the request (or even sooner if you're local) while others seem to be booking months in advance. from what i've read on this board, drexel seems to be booking them further ahead than other schools. i'd imagine most schools are into february/march at this point.
i think it's a good idea to call again to see if anyone has cancelled. drexel is a "backup" school for many and they interview so many people for that huge class, so they probably have a lot of cancellations late in the year after people have been accepted elsewhere.

hey Iola - sounds like we'll be interviewing on the same day! Tho' I think I will call and see if there are any cancellations earlier (good suggestion). Since I'm in Philly, I can be there tomorrow if a slot opens! I'm looking forward to seeing the program - as long as I'm interviewing for an actual class spot and not the waitlist at that point.

BTW - Have you received a packet of info from them yet? I've tried calling the admin office to ask about it, but I keep getting the answering machine....

i actually messed up with the march 12th date. after looking at my calendar, i have discovered that my interview is march 14. i'm hoping they will have a feb cancellation when i call.

any sdners planning on cancelling their interview?

what sort of packet? i received something with hotel info etc...

Was it in a separate mailing from your invite to interview? Now that I think about it, I can't recall if there was more than that letter in it - I'll have to check when I get home... The travel info and school brochure were what I was referring to. I kinda expected to receive something in the mail after scheduling my interview, kinda like a confirmation that I have a slot on the assigned day...

I'm probably looking for problems when there aren't any - so if I've confused you by my rambling...ignore it - I'm usually the one confused 😛

did not receive a second mailing from the interview invite. i don't think they are sending confirmations, at least not that i'm aware of. the mailing i received contained a letter offering me an interview and a brochure with "information you need for your upcoming interview".
