Anyone have any pros/cons about either of these schools in comparison to each other?

NJMS is located in NJ - enough said.

he said pros and cons. not just pros.

i dont know about Drexel...but i can tell u a lil bout NJMS

Pros- Gr8 clinical program, first and only center of humanistic medicine, gr8 residency placements, new curriculum means less lecture more hands on and clincal, getting a new cancer center, new apartments (dorms), NIH has double the research money NJMS gets, therefore now i believe it has more money that RWJ, it has a bioterrorism research center, AWESOME administration DR. H is the BEST!, gr8 cooperative environment....i talked to a few students... also just a few min from NYC

cons- people discredit the school only because its in Newark, ya its not the best place to live in...but RWJ has a campus on CAMDEN, NJ and that the nations most dangerous city...NEwark isnt even on the list. its just as safe as NYC.

Haha, nice response there Public Enemy...don't knock Jersey baby, it's a beautiful place.

drguy, I PMed you.

I know this is a super-old thread, but if anyone has other input, I'd appreciate it as I'm somewhat in the same position. davidthegnome, if you're still around, what made you choose NJMS, ultimately?

Drexel is a TERRIFIC place to be if you really want to learn to be a clinician. The faculty are terrific - everyone loves the Dean of Students and Pathology courses and so many other core classes are well taught. When you get tired of the sciences, you can take one of the many evening Humanities courses and further boost your resume and sanity.

The best part is that you get to choose the IFM or PIL program based on your own learning style. Personally, I think the PIL program is the way to go - the case based program that mixes small group learning with lectures. What better way to spend 3 hour mornings/2x a week with 7 people, a facilitator who has an MD or Ph.D, and homemade waffles, OJ, and fruit brought by the group members? The most valuable part of PIL is learning to create differentials and concept map as well as learning to work with your friends and with people you can't stand. It doesn't get any more real than this. But Drexel really goes out of its way to keep medical students sane and happy. We have a great new gym, you can jog by the river nearby, you can watch all the classes online at your leisure if you can't ever roll yourself out of bed. 😴

You can become an MD anywhere but you really have to decide where it is you can have a life, make some real friends, and not feel like you're with Type A gunners all the time.

Good luck deciding🙂
