i just got put on drexel's waitlist this past week, and i interviewed on NOVEMBER 11 and finally found out. anyone know anything about this waitlist, like when the movement is likely to come, or what the probability is of me getting off of it? thanks.

I got off Drexel's waitlist pretty late last year(July). They pull people off up until the first day of orientation, so you might be in for a bit of wait.

However, I know few people in my class who got off the waitlist in early spring. It really just depends upon how the admissions cycle is going this year.

I know that nexy year's class will be smaller than mine, so that does make things a bit more complicated.

Best of luck!

I got a post-interview rejection today. Ain't that a @#$%&! Oh well. Rejection is a lot easier when you have an acceptance in hand. I interviewed in January.

Hey 2tall, when in Jan did you interview? I'd really like to know. I interviewed Jan 12 and haven't heard a word.

The secretary yesterday said at least 2 more wks of waiting for me.

flick, do you have any rough estimate of what percentage they actually take off the waitlist? I know at some schools like MCW they take literally almost everyone, whereas at other places they take maybe 50-100. thanks.

I interviewed on Jan 8 and still haven't heard a word, but I haven't called the secretary or anything like that.

hoon, I interviewed that same week. I was a little surprised to have received it so soon. I expected the waitlist, at least. I guess one shouldn't make assumptions. C'est la vie. I'll take no offense. By the way, I interviewed with Dr. Tunkel.

Me too. I interviewed on Jan 8 and haven't heard either. If anyone that interviewed on that date receives some type of notification, please post. Thanks.

I interviewed on Jan. 8th (with a million other people), and received an acceptance letter yesterday. the letter was sent to my home in oklahoma (in case you are curioius) and was dated jan. 31st. i plan on declining my acceptance.

good luck everyone.

Same here. Complete ~11-1.

i have an interview at the VERY end of March, so theyre still interviewing. apparently during the month of february they only interview h.s. seniors who are competing for the undergraduate accelerated program. that could be why they're being quiet right now - they're preoccupied. hope that helps.
best of luck everyone~

this is a lame question, but was it a thick envelope or a thin one?

Thick, big ole envelope.

I dont believe that is true, as I have an interview at Drexel this Saturday Feb. 12th. It was however scheduled way back in November.

anyone know how many people drex takes off the waitlist in an average year?

Congrats pbehzad! Has anyone else heard back from drexel who interviewed on Jan 8th?

They said 6 weeks, but it looks like they might be making their decisions sooner.

I also interviewed on the 8th and got my acceptance packet two days ago 🙂

My letter was also dated on Jan. 31st.

People, I'm interviewing on MAY 1st!! Even though I just got a Jefferson interview for 3/2, I was told there were no Drexel interview openings in March. Hopefully, I'll have an acceptance to someplace else by then so I don't have to fly out to Philly twice.

It seems that they interview a lot of people. Do we know how many out of the interview pool gets accepted?

The reason they interview so many people is b/c their class is more than twice the size of most entering classes, in 2003 it was 250 entering MS-1's. So they interview more but proportionally speaking they accept at about the same rate as other schools; generally 1/3 outright accepted 1/3 waitlisted and 1/3 ish rejected post interview. This is why they say if you have 3 interviews statistically you should get in somewhere. Good luck, Drexel is a low stress interview. 🙂

Hmmm, I was wondering what some of your guys stats are. I have a few friends at Drexel and am actually making it one of my top my top choices. I like phili and have heard some good things about the faculty and student body. I got a 30 on the MCAT, bcpm of 3.0 and overall of 3.4... Ty

drexel is good about looking past your stats and looking at the whole person. As for stats i got accepted with a 31 MCAT and ~3.4 gpa. I have friends with lower gpas and mcat scores who have gotten interviews at drexel. If you can show them that you really, really like their school, you have a good chance of being accepted.

How do you tell a school there the one for you without coming off to strong and actually changing their mind?? I heard that after the interview its sometimes a good idea to send a thank you letter and include that the school your interviewing as is your "priority" choice. THink this makes a difference? Heard of anyone do this before?

Thank you letters are quite common. If you really want to let a school know they are your top choice, you could send a letter of intent. I'm sure it makes a difference at some schools. I know Gtown likes intent letters... probably tulane too. I don't know about drexel though.

Lamar Odom rules!!!

But anyways, I interview Feb. 1st and my file hasn't even went to the committee yet (as of Thursday).

It is true... I'm a PIL MS-I, and I can tell you everyday for the month of February we had high schoolers here for interviews. The exception however, were some of the Saturday interviews they held.

musicdr, do you know any specifics about the drexel waitlist? one of the front office ladies told me they dont start movement until june 1.

musicdr, are they accepting kids with <30 mcats? you have any idea? thanks! 🙂

Sorry guys, I don't know anything about waitlists. Thats not something that is really common knowledge, even to current students.

Good news though- I was accepted last year with a 27,28 MCAT at the end of April. Don't fret, there is still plenty of time! They interview very late and many people in my class were accepted in the spring, early summer, and even through the summer.

Good luck!

any idea on how often the committee meets ?

At my interview, they said they said the committee meets every Thursday.

I'm currently an MS1 at Drexel and loving it. Just an FYI, I didn't submit part 2 of my application until after my MCAT scores came back (I took the August exam). Drexel called me for an interview in Jan/Feb and the FIRST opening was April 30! They do regular admission interviews through about May 7. I think as a rule, about 30% get waitlisted, 30% declined and 30% accepted outright. I know last year they were "full" sometime in March but don't worry. All schools have fluctuations once the spring arrives and things start moving. I had a great interview, left on a long vacation mid-May and came home to a pile of mail in June. I found a waitlist letter dated 5/21 and, before I could do anything, the acceptance letter came the next day. I honestly wasn't even going to keep the Drexel interview because I was already accepted and waitlisted at hometown schools but decided to go just for fun. I ended up loving it. It was a tough decision--I am NOT fond of Philly--and it meant uprooting and moving 1/2 way across the country. However, the school is awesome. All those corny things you hear about "too good to be true"/"unbelievably friendly" etc? They ARE true. That said, it's not the school for everyone. It is very low on the competitive side--you are only competing against yourself, not every classmate (unlike other Philly schools!) and I was blown away by the level of support and sharing among students both in my class and the classes ahead of me. However, if you thrive on outright cutthroat competition, you might want to look elsewhere. The first two years are really student-focused and the primary teacher for each course is an educator, not a researcher. It makes a HUGE difference. You don't realize it until you get a lecture from someone absolutely brilliant who has no idea how to communicate the material. Then you realize how lucky you are with dedicated educators! Anyway, I think once you visit the "right" school for you (be it Drexel or anywhere else) you'll immediately feel the fit--and that's where you should go. Good luck!

i called today and the guy said the waitlist starts to move around june-july. quite the range there. sigh.

bh88, when you called did they give you any other info..like if the waitlist is ranked, how many people were waitlisted, etc..?

I'm going to be withdrawing my acceptance to Drexel, got into a school in CA! I hope one of you guys gets it!

PAPA -- he didnt say how many people, i'm not sure if i asked though. and it IS ranked...but the ranking cannot be disclosed (surprise surprise). hmm...i forgot what else i asked, but i dont think i got anything substantial from the conversation. maybe u can get a bit of information, and we can piece our bits together. 👍

Yeah, I already got into a California school too and I interviewed at Drexel and as of Monday, they still haven't looked at my application (I interviewed on feb. 1). I don't know if this is because they know I got into a school that is in my state but it is rather frustrating when you spend 400 dollars+ on going to an interview and the school hasn't looked at your app the last 10 weeks. Do any med students at Drexel know whats going on? My friend with no acceptances interviewed the same day as me and he got his acceptance letter 3+ weeks ago. Sorry for sounding rude but I'm very upset about this.

Some of these schools guard their waitlist rankings like kristie alley guards her jelly doughnuts... If anyone can give a reason why these rankings are so top secret, I will give you a thumbs up...maybe even a smiley face if its good.

B/c their is no waitlist at all, there just going to reject us.

How many people are on the waitlist at Drexel usually each year?
The U.S. News & World Report says they had 5,613 apps last year, interviewed 1,638, accepted 899, and enrolled 250.

If they accept 899 and enroll 250 does that mean there were
649 people waitlisted?

If so, wow.....

I don't think that is the case because they could accept 500 ppl straight up, waitlist 600-700, and accept 399 of those on the waitlist. So basically, we just don't know. I would say however that being waitlisted at Drexel most likely provides a better opportunity for an acceptance than many othe schools due to the high volume of applications that they process.

You know how Drexel tells you it will take 4-8 weeks to hear from them. From most of the responses posted here it seems like if you are going to get a straight acceptance post-interview then you'll hear from them 4-5 weeks after your interview. Anything longer than that, both waitlist and rejection are fair game. So basically those of you that are waiting 10 weeks out, I'd say you'd most likely expect a waitlist or a rejection. I don't remember reading a post from someone saying they waited oodles of time and then being accepted straight out. Either way good luck to all. Who knows, if certain waitlists shift while others don't, I might end up at Drexel with several of you next semester. Good luck to all in this never-ending process.

Actually, I waited nine weeks post-interview, and got my accpetance on Monday. Don't give up hope! Good luck to all. 👍

Congrats! I guess I was incorrect on my observation.

Just as a heads up I called Drexel a few days ago and was told that they have their biggest waitlist movement in July (which kinda shocked me). I sure hope that they have some large movement earlier, b/c waiting until July to be accepted would kinda be absurd. I guess that is maybe whey they have the largest movement then. Someone please post if they have any more info or if they get in off the waitlist. Thanks

Yeah, it took them ten weeks to accept me post-interview. Every day for eight of those ten weeks, my mom would call me as soon as the mail came and go, "Did you hear yet? Did you hear yet?" and I'd go, "No... maybe tomorrow." Finally, since I'm a unique application case (I was applying for a conditional acceptance out of their post-bacc which would mean I'd be accepted but need a 27 on the MCAT this April), I called them like FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE MCAT and was just like, "Um, I really need to know if I got accepted since I'd like to know how I need to do on the MCAT." The woman I ended up with on the phone was all blase and just like, "Yeah, you were accepted." It took another week for me to get the letter! Don't give up hope, people. 👍
