Since the economic situation has caused many stores in the chain that I work for to close down. One pharmacist was forced to drive 110 miles to work! I was wondering if anyone of you would be willing to drive daily 110 miles (one way) to work?

no freaking way! 110 miles??? why didnt that person just move, for god's sake?

I am. 2 and 1/2 hours away. I am looking to get into a trailer maybe like WVU =D. Maybe a boat also.

To the other poster, its harder to move than you think it is. First, you might be committed to an old house that you just brought. Second, most areas where chains want you to work in is a ****ty neighborhood. Either that or it is farmlands where it is hard to find a place to rent or the areas around it is ridiculously expensive and are rich people's playground.

There are also a lot of towns/places where people dont rent because it is is a place where you come in to buy and settle down. This doesnt work out for a lot of new graduates because they dont have the money to put down a down payment or buy a house.

I drive 75 miles one way to get my OT hours for 3 days 10-12 hours shifts -.- LOL.. well it's OT so it's kinda worth it, otherwise I would not do it XD

but.. 110 miles one way (about 2 hours drive) sux lol... total 4 hours which could have been your paycheck!

110 miles is completely absurd. 😱 I probably wouldn't take a job that i had to drive longer than 15-20 minutes to get to unless there were absolutely extraordinary circumstances involved.

I dont mind living in a so called "bad" neighborhood, and contrary to what aznfarmerboi says, there are places to rent out in "farm land" and in small towns too. But maybe i'm biased being from the semi-rural midwest after all.

Right now I drive about 35 miles one way to get to work, and that's about the extent that I'd be willing to drive. I can see people driving a little longer than that for various reasons, but 110 miles one way? If you figure he's driving a vehicle that gets 25 mpg and gas is $2/gal, that's about $5000 a year on gas alone!

What we need... is a bullet train.

I recently worked with a pharmacist who regularly had to drive 40 miles (one-way) through really crappy traffic just to get 20-25 hours a week.

That's after moving from a smaller city where she was getting OT hours regularly. It all depends on where you're living.

Actually it's about $4,575 per year. If your car got 25mpg, then you would spend about $1,456 per year commuting 35miles one way. Therefore, instead of saying that's $5,000 per year on gas alone (even though it's true), we should look at it as it's about $3,100 per year more on gas.

True, but I was also being generous about the gas mileage and prices, so I rounded up in my head. 😉

Money isnt so much an issue as it is with your car going bust on you. You usually get paid a lot more (10k+ with big sign on bonus and maybe retention also) for far away places. It is the time that you spend in traffic that is a problem. You also have to wake up at 5:30 just so you can open up the store in time and get home around 10-11ish.
