Being neurotic here..
Are drivings records checked for med school? Residency or licensing boards?
Do I have to report and explain or can I just go about my merry way?

I was involved in a minor accident but was not at fault and have not liabilities.

Some of the applications ask about tickets.

No one asks or cares about accidents where you weren't at fault. I mean, what? That has no legal implications whatsoever, so why would anyone care? Unless you mean you THINK you weren't at fault but were issued a ticket anyway. Some of the more broad applications would require you to report that (vermont specifically says all tickets including speeding tickets, IIRC).

What about an accident where I was found to be at fault and the other party hired a lawyer? I was never issued a ticket, and the insurance company's dealing with the legal side of things. Could a non-fatal (though the other side's claiming injury, despite the fact there was an ambulance present and the individual in question walked off the scene just fine) accident in my college years really jeopardize my chances?

Will this show up in a background check? Here I was, going on my merry way and applying this cycle.

With the massive disclaimer that I AM NOT A LAWYER, I'm pretty sure the private determination of the insurance company is NOT something that would show up on a background check.

I believe the applications, and the background checks, look only at things that have happened inside of the court system.

Someone else with more knowledge of the process should probably chime in.

Chill. It's felonies, misdemanors, or IAs that they ask about.

UVM asked about any "moving violations" (everything except parking tickets). I assume that it was mostly just to gauge honesty. I can't imagine an accident would influence their decision in any way. All the other schools I applied to only asked about misdemeanors and felonies.
