I'm not going to go into long detail about stuff, so I'll keep it short and sweet. Im 17 yrs old and I'm a high school dropout. My grades in school were literally straight D's and F's. I know, It was stupid.

My question is, Is there any way that I can get into the Medical field being a high school dropout? I am in the process of obtaining a GED.

Oh, and I have a criminal record, but It's being washed away when I turn 18, Idk if that's useful info or not, but it doesn't hurt to throw it in there.

Your grades in high school will have zero impact on your chances for med school admission. The criminal record thing I'm not as sure about, but if I recall correctly, the charges you accumulated before turning 18 will not show up on a background check unless they're felonies or you were tried as an adult.

Yes. Take the GED, then go a community college, then transfer to a 4 year school. Of course, you will need to earn great grades along the way, but it can be done!

What is the nature of your criminal offences, unfortunately, depending on what they are they can have an impact.

Well, my charges are still pending. Im getting charged for Burglary and Theft. I didn't do it, I was just with people that did do it. I should have left I know. My probation officer told me, last Thursday when I met with her that they MIGHT get a warrant for my arrest, and she doesn't know if I will be charged as an adult or not.

You're probation officer as in you are already on probation for something else?
This could definately be a problem if your hoping on going to medical school. I suggest you wait and find out if charges are going to be pressed, and if your charged as an adult or not. At which point, I would bring questions such as what you have to disclose on your application up with your lawyer.

Best of luck.

Yeah I'm already on probation for something else, Trespassing.

Good for you that you're trying to do something with your life. Now figure out what you've been doing wrong so far. Get your GED, go to a CC, and stop hanging out with the wrong crowd and getting in trouble with the law.

Makes you sound kind of sheltered...
I'm not saying this doesn't happen but this is the OP's first post about a situation which will likely preclude passage of the fitness exam. Each post has become more ridiculous first a criminal record, then the OP states that he or she is on probation and then adds there are pending charges. If that doesn't sound like a troll I don't know what does.

So, what you're saying is that no one has ever committed 2 crimes in a row?

People are like that. If they're not proud of something they're going to minimize it at first and when prodded about it, reveal more. It's not really getting more ridiculous anyway, just more information's getting disclosed.

Why does everyone who isn't "SDN perfect" on here have to be a troll? Give the OP the benefit of the doubt, people do change.

OP, once you turn 18, that's the last time your slate will be wiped clean. As others have said, get your GED, do well in college, but most importantly, get some new friends. You'll always fall back to your old ways if you stick w/ them. G'luck

Even if the OP isn't a troll and passes the GED exam, he will have difficulty passing his Character and Fitness exams as Burglary is likely a Class B or C felony and may disqualify him in some states. This will likely prove a detriment to gaining acceptance to a medical school as many schools do perform background checks on applicants. While these are certainly not insurmountable and the OP may be accepted and gain licensure, these are privileges, not rights and many states would be leery of granting a convicted felon these privileges.

Why are you all of a sudden trying to talk like a lawyer? The OP isn't a convicted felon. By the way, what do you mean by Character and Fitness exams?

I don't think the OP is a troll. Even if he is, this thread now how information useful to other people in his type of situation.

The OP stated "Oh, and I have a criminal record"; a Character and Fitness exam is the state licensing agency may delve into an applicant's background for licensure. They may deny licensure on the basis of prior convictions, physician impairment (alcoholic/drug addicted) or if licensed in another state they garnered ethics complaints or received sanctions. Remember that states have the ability to deny licensure to an applicant for almost any reason.

Just remember-it's not where you are right now, its where you're going. By the sound of the burglary thing, you might need to find some better friends. (no offense) Good Luck! 🙂

If you want to go to med school, you can, but you have to make the right decisions from now on forward.
