Two years ago I got arrested on charges of drug paraphernalia. I’m currently about to finish my courses required for entrance to the School of Pharmacy. As of a month ago the charges placed upon me were dropped and the case was overturned in my favor. Being that the charges are now completely dropped what affect could they have on appetence to pharmacy. I mean under the United States legal system I show up as no charges it still shows I got arrested but I won the court case.

Here's the thing, if the charges were actually dismissed then it isn't on your record anymore. BUT, if the charges were reduced then it is on your record. A friend of mine got arrested and it was reduced to a $25 fine and "parking on the pavement" which doesn't even carry any points and it's on her record that she was arrested. The only way to get rid of a charge on your record is to have the charges dismissed.

THe charges were truely dismissed but wisconsin has a open door policy when it comes to court records. Being so if you go to wcca.wicourts.gov and look up my records they are still showable that I went to court for the drug charge even though it shows up has dismissed. My fear is if admissions went online and checked it would show up making me look rather bad. Granted they were dismissed but due the competition of Pharmacy School at UW-Madison that could be all it takes for them not to accept me.

Thanks Much

Generally, there is so sort of appeal process for people who are denied a state liscence. If, and hopefully it wouldn't come to that point, you have a problem, you usually have an opportunity to explain. Best of :luck: !

I'm not really sure if you will ever know. I'm thinking you need to look up the requirements on the application process to schools. Does it say you are not allowed a conviction or an arrest? Your fingerprints are on file because of the arrest, so are easily traced (altho this is an expensive & time consuming process & probably not done on every applicant). If it is only a conviction - my advice would be to not say anything on the application & try not to worry (easier said than done!).

Once you are actually in pharmacy school, it is usually no problem. I had a classmate who was convicted of a drug charge (this was in the 70's - lots of drugs...) He had to go before the Board to explain before he was allowed to take the exam - would probably be done now by letter. But..he was allowed to take the exam & later worked for the Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic (treats lots of drug abusers), but this is CA - different than Wisconsin.

Hopefully, you'll be able to explain. Perhaps those who have been through the application process recently will give you more insight. Good luck!

You might want to talk to a lawyer. If your charges were dismissed, then you didn't plead guilty and you weren't convicted. Why would you have to pay the penalty of not getting an intern's license under those circumstances? If there's something on your record that could hurt you, I would think you could pay an attorney to have your record sealed (in my state they call it expungement).

If everything is as you say it is - I don't think you have anything to disclose. But do talk to an attorney.

I wouldn't worry about it. Since you were found innocent and the charge was dismissed there is no legal reason to deny you a license.

Unfortunately this will probably haunt you for the rest of your life. I'm not sure if this is true for every state, but for my state the pharmacy licensing board requires you to declare if you have any prior convictions or arrests or sign an oath that you haven't. If you DO have a prior arrest (for any reason, at any previous time, in any state, regardless of outcome) you are required to submit a detailed explanation of what occured plus all court documents including the police report for review.

Innocent until proven guilty right? 🙄
