Will I have issues if schools have accepted me and I drop my Biochem class? The schools I am interviewing at don't need Biochem. So it seems like it wont be a problem. I just want to make sure it wont affect my chances after I send them the Academic Update.

Drop it like it's hotttt

it may be a problem. School accept you based on what you have provided on your application. You should call and ask the schools if it would be an issue.

You can do it and then let us know the end result.

or

You can call the school an ask 🙄

right but the Biochem is not a prereq for most schools that I am going to. So why would it be an issue?

it wouldn't.. many ppl do this.. i personally know a bunch who did it at various schools.. now if it were a pre-req then yeah thats a diff story but then again you would prob just have to take the pre-req sometime before matriculation

If you take biochem now you will thank yourself later. There is a lot of information to absorb in d-school and having been exposed to the course is helpful.

I'm assuming you are enrolled in the class now.

the earliest you know you get accepted is December 1st.

Even if your school allowed you to drop the course with a W, isn't it kind of a waste of your time? finals will be coming up in a week or two anyways.

You spent the 2-3 months studying for the class you might as well just finish it out.

Maybe that's just me. I paid my money and spent my time I might as well get something out of it.

i know but I dont know if I want to ruin my gpa with that class. I am post-bacc and have a nice GPA now. The class is educational and I have all the materials. I just dont know if its logical to get a C or B- in it.

Because it may be part of several factors in why a school chose to accept you. Atleast at Temple, if you state you will take something on your app, you better take it, or else notify the school and talk to them about any adjustments.

yes i understand the situation. thanks for that. im gonna see what to do. I havent gotten the first exam back yet, i just know i bombed certain parts of it. and take it from there. ps Temple has no love for me lol i have yet to hear back even though I'm very excited at the thought of interviewing there.

on similar lines,

is it required by schools to send a transcript with updated grades after acceptance? i've heard different things...

or is that whole aadsas update coursework thing optional

yes, you send your final transcript after all your grades are in ( from both fall and spring of the year before you matriculate).

Ah, ok, so I just send them a final transcript after i have my fall and spring semester grades of this year....gotcha!

Thanks! That clarifies things 🙂.

On my manual dexterity section I wrote that I am enrolled in a ceramics class which I have since switched to a guitar class, can I wait until the academic update to make this change on my AADSAS?

A friend of mine actually did this. Except to the extreme. After they got their acceptance letter, they dropped their entire senior spring semester. The only credit keeping them from having a BS degree is a semester of chem (I don't remember the chem class in specific). They went on to dental school and have a successful private practice. I failed to mention that this was "back in the day," I don't see this happening now and getting away with it. But a single class, possibly, as long as you graduate with a degree.

I know a lot of schools don't require biochem, but I still intend on taking it. Even if I got accepted I would probably keep all of my classes for the upcoming semester. Or maybe switch a class to something that interests my a little more. Like swapping biochem for hematology, hypothetically (I would take both though).

well im a post bacc so i dont need the class to graduate, but I got back my grade (didnt do too hot) but im gonna keep it. i dont want to drop it, it makes me feel bad LOL because I paid for it and the prof is very knowledgeable I want to learn from the class.

DONT drop a class that you said you were going to take! Some Schools will revoke your acceptance if you don't take the classes you said you were going to take. AADSAS is looked at almost as a contract. Temple will revoke your acceptance 100% if you say you are going to take Biochem and don't... Call and ask, but better off just taking it.

At 2 of my interviews this year the schools mentioned to not drop classes after acceptances. They both gave examples including dropping biochem.

LOL, I don’t have finals for like 7-8 weeks!

I dropped a minor from my application after acceptance. It wasn't a problem at all. I just called the school and explained my situation. They were fine with it since the minor was computer science.

Just call the school and explain your situation, every school is different.
