Dropping out... ABSITE?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am a categorical gen surg intern, and I've decided to leave my program at the end of the year. ...I haven't told anyone in my program yet that I'm leaving. Hopefully I'll be able to do so before the ABSITE (so either I won't have to take it or they won't care about my score)...

....so I don't have to take it, since I haven't studied at all and I know my score will be dismal?

....If I do take it without telling anyone I'm leaving and I get a horrible score, could I be kicked out of my program? What usually happens if you totally bomb?

.... because that will look bad for my applications to other programs. ...
I'm going to be blunt.... if for no other reason then it causes me great pain and distress to be otherwise.

I suggest you open a book and study. You are currently a resident at your program. You are receiving a paycheck to be an active participant in your program. You are expected to meet ALL your duties and responsibilities consistent with your PGY level. All this means you not only should but that you have agreed to study for and sit for the inservice exam. If you intend to continue as a resident... ultimately receiving a certificate/diploma/credit for a year of residency, you need to actually do your job so you earned it.+pity+

If you are planning to break your contract and quit now, you will not be forced to take the inservice exam in January. However, in your great immaturity, your post makes it clear you want to continue as a resident to the completion of your contract... but you wish to do so on your terms and avoid tasks that may highlight your incompetency or innadequacy as a surgical resident.

Long and short.... grow up, do your job, face the music, and move on....:whoa:

the junior absite takes a week to study for, max. most of the material is the stuff you learned in medical school. even if you didn't read a single page this year, you can still score decently. i have no idea who the jokers that score 1%tile are. i think they must have purposefully put the wrong answers.
