does anyone know what drugs/medicine might cause a seizure? to a patient with no seizure history and no other illnesses. My best friend had a migraine and was unresponsive sent to the hospital. Blood tests, MRI and other test were negative. she had several seizures @ the hospital and was intubated because the seizure sometimes stopped the breathing. The physicians can't explain the cause. Im guessing they might have given her a medicine that triggered the seizure? is this possible? I dont know the medication she received at the time she was in the hospital but they tried several. I know one of them was heparin and it was a wrong medication after they found out she had a rash and itching all over the body they stopped it immedietly, they injected heparin to her before the xray. xray found no blood clots. So I think they give her trial n error medications. She's now out and was prescribed with gabapentin and phenobarbital only diagnosed with seizure disorder she had lost some memories n have short term memories. sometimes couldnt remember what she did 2 days ago or sometimes what she did earlier on the day. is it possible that it might be a malpractice? maybe wrong medications?
I read a similar story about a male patient had a chest discomfort, was given lidocaine, triggering grand mal seizures, to stop the seizures they adminestered IV valium, and the meds stopped the patients breathing. a nurse anesthetist finally intubated the patient but suffered irreversable brain damage and anoxiainduced parkinsons, patient was awarded 1.5 million in damages. Im not asking for medical advice but are there any pharmacist here who knows more about drugs that might cause a seizure? It is weird that she had a seizure at the hospital and never before in her life.
