Hi Everyone,
I need some help deciding between Drexel and George Washington’s Regional Medical Campus. I’m from MA and have a strong interest in pursuing projects in translational research. Both have Scholarly concentrations programs available and the COA is roughly the same factoring in car loan and rent. They are also roughly the same price for travel to see my family. Both schools are great and I can see myself at either one, but let me know your opinions 🙂
Drexel
Pros
Cons
GW RMC
Pros
Cons
Summary: I will wait until I do my first look at both schools. I feel like both are amazing opportunities and I am very lucky to be in this position. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Drexel
Pros
- Shorter, pre-recorded lectures paired with team based learning. Plus the curriculum is designed so that you essentially repeat your learning from MS1 into MS2 with a focus on anomalies.
- Health Advocacy Practicum built into your schedule
- Good research exposure to UPenn, Jefferson
- Very solid Match Results/higher number of match results in the northeast where my family is
- NBME Exam format used for exams every 3-4 weeks.
- The students I have spoken to seem happier with their schedules and the amount of support they get from the school. My student interviewer was the NICEST PERSON.
- Similar environment to my undergrad institution
Cons
- Lack of a teaching hospital for Philly students (this isn’t necessarily a massive con, just something I am aware of)
- Not sure which campus I will be on until March 30th but I would have no problem with attending their Philly campus or Regional Campus
- RMC has Level 1 trauma center and good affiliations through tower health network for a variety of residencies (i think its 35 at various locations?)
- Not sure which campus I will be on until March 30th but I would have no problem with attending their Philly campus or Regional Campus
- More Rotating for clinical years if on the Philly Campus
- BIIIG CLASS.
- Less 1:1 time for clinical years with attendings
GW RMC
Pros
- Would have the same education as other GW students for the first two years then move to Baltimore for clinicals
- Less rotating for clinical years, wouldn’t have to learn new EMRs
- 1:1 with attendings for clinical years
- Scholarship gift of 10,000/year for M3 and M4
- Overall have been more responsive over email/sending out info about the school
- Good research exposure at NIH in Bethesda
- Exposure to JHU for MS4 away rotations
- Student speaking for the RMC experience seemed to really enjoy the small feel of the program and seemed close with the Deans of the location
- RMC students ranked higher edu satisfaction according to the Deans (Personally im taking it with a grain of salt)
Cons
- Their Portal resources look like they were developed in a potato and can be a bit convoluted at times.
- Lecture schedule seems really packed/less flexible than Drexel. Also does both In house and NBME exams
- No match results for the RMC students yet (will be released with this upcoming cycle)
- Name and shame post with GW SMHS residents
- DC has less housing available and I would have to get a car earlier
- After looking on the internet I don’t really know much about Sinai Baltimore Hospital where I would do clinical training
- 7 residency programs with Level II trauma center
- Match results seem like a lot of internal feeding back into the GW program (this isn’t necessarily a con I just don’t know what to do with this info)
Summary: I will wait until I do my first look at both schools. I feel like both are amazing opportunities and I am very lucky to be in this position. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!
