Hi guys, I'm wondering about your opinions on this situation.

I was invited for a Duke interview which I have yet to schedule, but I also applied to UNC. I at least got the secondary, and I would say it's somewhat probable (although not guaranteed by any means of course), that I may get an interview there. I called 2 weeks ago to see if there was an updated status, and they basically told me "a while." Would it be precocious to call up UNC and perhaps say, I was going to be in the area a certain weekend or something, or come right out and say I'll be at Duke a certain time, and really want to know my decision for an interview or not? I really don't want to have to buy 2 plane tickets to Raleigh/Durhum airport right now...

I think if worded appropriately, that would not be a problem. I think the schools understand the financial burden of the application process.

You can call and ask them. I believe UNC only interviews about 100 people out of state, so it can be tough to get an interview there if you are not an NC resident.

You can try, but i think you're pretty much screwed here. I doubt you can really pressure them into giving you an interview when you want one.

It's less about jockeying for an interview and more about just wanting to know yes or no so I can buy my plane ticket.

I doubt that they are going to ball up your application and use it as toilet paper if you mentioned that you were going to be in the area at a certain time, and that it would be convenient for you that if they were going to invite you for an interview, that they do it then. Plus, you already have 4 acceptances, so you can gamble a bit. How likely are you to attend that school, if interviewed and (hopefully) subsequently accepted?
