Hey if there are any Blue Devils out there, I'd love to give your insight on something. I am a NC resident and have been fortunate enough to have been accepted at both UNC and Duke. It will be awhile before I get my financial aid package, but I was just curious if any of you who are NC residents have found that Duke can make the cost competitive to the dirt-cheap tuition at Chapel Hill. Any help would be really appreciated!

Congrats on getting into both! I can't imagine the benefits of going to Duke would outweigh the cheap cost of UNC considering it's a top notch school too. Then again, I go to Wake so I'm pretty sure I don't have a clue as to what the hell I'm talking about.

Bump.

I'm also interested in UNC vs. Duke. Would love to get opinions from students at both schools.

I'm out-of-state so UNC's not quite so dirt-cheap for me . . .

I think UNC makes it possible to be in-state after just one year of paying out of state tuition so it makes it pretty cheap for everyone. I'm looking at both schools too and I think there are some big differences b/w them. First of all, you take all your classes in the first year at Duke and do your rotations second year, leaving the third year for research. I haven't decided if I think this is a plus or a minus for me (I think it's a plus). A large majority of the med school class at UNC is from NC while the average age of incoming students at Duke is 21.9 (which is really young considering there is a 39 year old in that class so there have to be a lot of young people to balance that out and still get such a low number). Both schools have a good reputation. I have two friends that are married - one went to Duke and one UNC - and they say they think the schools are both great and feel like they got very similar educations. Just my two cents...
