wow, where did you get that info?

from a stanford med memo. check my post (on a separate duke thread) for the exact numbers.

Duke?! Where's that?! 😉

I called the Duke admissions office today. Turns out that only those with 3.75 and 36 or higher get a secondary.

J/k - I dont think anyone can give you exact cutoffs.

So I called Duke's office today and I was like "are secondaries screened or not" and the lady (very nice) was like "no, everyone gets one" and I was like "is that a recent change??" "no, it's been like that for a couple of years" "but your website says only qualified applicants get the secondary"...

her response: "yes, we really should update that soon."

then she said that they hadn't started downloading amcas yet so we could expect secondaries (for those ppl that are verified) late next week.

SO I AM SUPER CONFUSED -- how do ppl already have duke secondaries???

haha you gave me a momentary heart attack

i got a secondary from duke today.
it says:

As you begin the supplemental application process, it is important to know, that absent unusual circumstances, those applications with an overall (cumulative) GPA < 3.2 are not favorably reviewed. Please take this into consideration when deciding whether to proceed further with completion and submission of the Duke University School of Medicine Supplemental Application

my stats? nothing spectacular: 31R, 3.7 GPA, masters degree in engineering, nontrad

OK, I got the 60% number from Princeton Review Complete Book of Medical Schools, page 97, under the Admissions Process section:

"About 60 percent of AMCAS applicants receive secondary applications. Of those returning secondaries, about 30 percent are interviewed."

But if the ladies in the admissions office say otherwise, I guess I'll go with their info since they work there. But they really should update their website.

When you go to the login screen for Duke it says

NOTE: Only applicants who have received an official invitation for the 2004/2005 application year from the Medical School Admissions Office will be permitted to register.

So I give up trying to figure out if they screen or not.

...calming down...

Okay, I called Duke again. The thing is, they're not screening. They're just taking a while to upload all the secondary invite emails since they have so many to send out. It will probably take all weekend before they are done with this.

BTW, the 2 week deadline isn't firm. Take your time with the secondary.

Yup, Duke does not screen.
I think their secondary, by being rather intensive, does it for em.

yeah, those 8 essays are going to be murder.
