So I recently got accepted to an anesthesiology program and am now doing a surgery prelim. Do we have to take any ABS exams or any surgery exams during our prelim year?
Depends on the program. Some prelims are expected to take it and some are expected to do well on it (our surgical subs were cautioned that they were expected to).
Thank you so much for the awesome responses. I am sure they're going to let us know pretty soon. So far they've just told us the roster, introduced us to our new colleagues, gave us places to visit while we're here and gave us info to get licensed in the state.
I had to take it during my intern year. As somebody not going into a surgical specialty, nobody cared how I did. It lets the categorical interns feel good about themselves before they get compared to mostly categorical residents the following year.
