If I've done some job shadowing, does school ask question about it? If so, how detailed question have you gotten from them?

I was asked nothing about my shadowing experience. But then again, this might be because they already knew everything about that from my dentist's LOR.

Be ready to answer anything from application. I was asked about the most random little things. Just relax, know why dent? why this school?

They will ask you questions that will make you reveal what you've seen.
It may not be directly like this "tell me about your shadowing experience".
It could be in the form of "why dentistry?" and you get to explain something in t he shadowing experience that inspired you to pursue dentistry. This is just one example.

They won't ask about specifics regarding what you saw (procedure type, how it was done, etc). Just what your impressions of it were. I suppose if you remember a lot of technical jargon you could throw that in but I didn't and felt it would look worse to say something dumb.

I would use your shadowing experiences to help you answer the "why dentistry" question. If you're able to think of a couple specific experiences you remember, it can help to show your genuine interest in dentistry. For example: I remeber how much support I was receiving from my dentist's patients regarding my dental aspirations, and how it felt as if I was beginning to form short term relationships with them......and I went on by saying that if I was able to create some type of relationship and positive interaction as a student shadowing, I couldn't imagine the positive feelings a dentist gets when forming long-term relationships with all of his/her patients..............it doesnt have to be about how you were thrilled to see 5 3rd molar extractions 😀

yep....what hattrack said.

Knowing details of your shadowing experiences and incorporating those details into different questions that the inteviewer ask you helps YOU steer the conversation.

So far, none of my interviews asked my anything about my shadowing. In fact, I was never even asked "why dentistry" at any of them which I found quite strange. They were really casual; they're just trying to get to know you as a person.

perfect answer! i did this in my last interview (and got in!). wish i would've controlled the conversation in this manner w/my other interviews. in the other interviews i was somewhat just going along with the conversation.

Um... I really appreciate all of your replies!!!
Thanks! 👍

ditto to the casual convos, but when they did get technical about shadowing I got to explain invisaline to a biochem instructor that was doing interviews. The question that kind of threw me off was "What's your back-up plan?" BUT with me being paranoid I asked the other interviewees-standard question for MUSC... whew!
