Hi,

I am a pre-medical student writing about an experience in the Emergency Room.

The patient was formally given the dx of "rectal prolapse", however, upon research I realize this does not cover the scope of what I saw.

The patient also had hep c, alcohol induced cirrhosis, and massive rectal bleeding.

If you have any advice on how I could better phrase this for my essay I would sincerely appreciate it!!

Thank you

Sounds like an anorectal variceal bleed. You can get varices anorectally just like in the esophagus, and if they start to bleed the patient is pretty much dead. Good luck with the essay.
