After many failed attempts, I finally found a physician who is willing to let me shadow him. So here's the issue, I e-mailed the physician and he replied to me saying he'd be glad to have me and that his clinic manager, who was cc'd in the e-mail, can arrange this. It's been almost a week and I haven't heard from the clinic manager yet. Should I e-mail the physician again? Should I e-mail the clinic manager and cc the physician or not cc the physician? I'd like to start shadowing as soon as possible but I don't want to step on anyone's toes. What do you think I should do?

I'd just email the manager, perhaps attach the original email. You could cc the physician, but I don't think it's necessary, as he's already told you who you need to get into contact with. Just be as polite as you can about it with the manager.

Agree, but don't CC the physician. Just email the manager and attach the original email and the physician's reply. And be polite.

I'm sure arranging for pre-meds to shadow is not an urgent priority for the clinic manager. Give him/her some time. If you are dying to send an email, coming off as pushy will not help your case.

Definitely email the clinic manager, but don't cc the physician. A week is plenty of time for the clinic manager to make a reply, and there is a decent chance that he got busy and forgot about you.

Email the office manager. Keep it polite, professional, and short- don't blubber on a bout how excited and honored you are to come shadow. Something along the lines of "Hi, I'm emailing you to follow up on shadowing Dr. X. Is there anything you need from me to help facilitate it?" will suffice. If you feel comfortable calling the clinic during business hours and talking to the manager, I'd suggest that over email.

I just sent out the e-mail saying "I was wondering when would be a good time to come into the clinic to shadow Dr. ____? My schedule is flexible so I can come in at any time. I look forward to hearing from you soon." Hopefully, I can move forward from this point.
