Earliest interviews

Well, I know that some people have begun interviewing at Texas schools. Early decision applicants have also begun interviewing, but I imagine you're not asking about them.
I have an interview during the first week of September at Case Western. When I called to schedule it I was very surprised at how early they began interviewing. I'm excited though!

Texas schools have already began. I interviewed August 8th at my school of choice actually.

I have an interview on Saturday. A friend of mine had one Thursday in Texas.

I have an interview the 2nd of October at VCU which is pretty early considering I am an out-of-state candidate. However, I have read in the medical school admissions booklets that MOST admission committees have interviews from September to April. I haven't heard from most of the other schools and curious if anyone has been scheduled an interview in September (I even heard some schools have interviews during AUGUST!! and these are NOT early decision programs). Besides Texas, I don't know any other schools that have scheduled interviews so early... too bad Texas schools are selective for residents... VERY Selective...

Congrats Mr. Anonymous!

I have a VCU interview too--do we have to let them know that we are coming? I got the impression we are just supposed to show up on our scheduled day. It seems pretty strange that we wouldn't have to confirm. Any thoughts?

I thought it was a little strange but I guess if anyone didn't want to go to the interview they would call. Otherwise, I assume we just show up on interview day and proceed with the announcements and tour. When is your interview day?

My interview is on September 25th--much sooner than I expected! Is VCU one of your top choices? Virginia is very pretty--it seems like it would be a nice place to spend the next four (or more!) years.

I got an interview at Tulane on October 11th... That's great, should be fun to see N'Awlins...

Has anyone heard anything from Vanderbilt? I like the fact that they don't give you a secondary unless they want to interview you, but I was just wondering if anyone knew what their timeline is.

Simul, a HUGE congrats! Way to go girl, I thought you'd do fine. I can't wait to hear how the interview goes. How's the reverse culture shock going? For me it was worse coming home than going there. Anyhow, my first week of med school is behind me, as well as my first weekend of partying like a rock star! You know you've chosen the right school when the med student parties get busted by the cops! So anyhow, back to my new boyfriend: biochem. He and I are getting down and dirty with collagen and elastin tonight! I know, you're all jealose!

Good luck to everyone interviewing, Mango

Mango,

hee hee, you seem to think I'm a girl.. i never called it on you yet, but i got a Y chromosome... male as can be.

Anyway, i am hella excited about going to visit Tulane... I am surprised as hell that they invited me, but I gotta put my money where my mouth is. I keep telling my friends that if I can get an interview, I can pry myself into the school.

Yeah, coming back from Denmark is tough, and i have a lot of insight on things, but i can't keep thinking about that fantasy world i left behind. i need to get back real soon, though. tulane has this great program with the karolinska institute in stockholm, so that might be cool...

you sound like you are havin fun in med school... which one did you pick?

Well see ya

Dude, sorry about the confusion! I don't know where I got that idea from? Insert foot into mouth I guess...

Anyhow, I know what you mean about the "fantasy world" feeling. It all seemed like a dream to me too when I returned. Several of my friends who studied abroad felt the same way.

As far as school, I think when I heard from you last I was trying to pick between wright state and OSU. Well, I dumped them both (as well as OU), and picked Cincy! It's awesome here. I hated having to move from my beloved C-Bus, but OSU just didn't "Do-it" for me, ya know? These things happen.

It just goes to show: don't get your heart set on a specific school before the interview. You may be totally shocked to find that the school you thought you'd love, is actually hella lame (love the South Park reference by the way)!

Good luck again, and welcome back to the boring, no-huglit(sp?) havin' US of A.

Incedentally, I realize my last post was an SDN no-no (ie no private conversations-- save it for email). But I thought I'd redeme myself by adding that if anybody needs help with advice/info/details on interviews, etc. for any of the Ohio schools, I've got it. Just let me know, I'd be more than happy to help out!

Mango-

I want to take you up on your offer! Can you give me any advice or info about the Case Western interview? I have it at the end of the month and don't have much information aside from the website. Did you interview there? If so, what were your impressions?

Thanks!

Skully, I should have qualified my remark by saying any Ohio school but Case. I am sorry! I decided not to send my secondary back to Case after I received it. My reasons were: 1. I'm from Ohio, which has SIX state Med schools, so I was fairly confident that I could get into one of them, and the other schools have a tuition around 11K/year, while Case is like 30K/year = BIG difference! Also, to be quite honest, I would not have been accepted (my MCAT was only 30)!

So I am sorry, I did interview at OSU, Wright, OU, Cincy (YEAH!!), and turned down interviews at NEOUCOM and MCO (for various other reasons). So if I can help anyone with those schools, I'd be happy to.

One last thing, find out about Case Western's class schedule -- they have Staurday class quite often I hear!! Yikes...

Saturday classes at Case no longer exist! Classes are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 8 am to 12 pm and Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 am to 1 pm. The interviews are very relaxed. I haven't talked to anyone who had a bad interview experience at Case. Good luck!!!
