I was thinking of applying early decision to UNC, but if I do, AMCAS wont allow me to apply to any other schools. So, how does this work? I can't apply to othe schools until I hear yea or nay from UNC? bcs that would put me way late in the cycle for everyone else/too late. help please

That's the rub. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Correct. That's your part of the Early Decision agreement. You cannot apply to any other schools until you are released from your ED commitment. Yes, that puts you significantly behind the curve, which is why you are only encouraged to apply ED if you are an absolutely exceptional candidate for that school. Best of luck.
