early decision thread- any school, who's applying?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
are you thinking about doing it xenon? are you going to give UCLA another go? good luck this cycle!

I applied early decision to UMd. I'm not really able to relocate, for family reasons, so rather than apply to schools I don't want to go to, I took the EDP gamble.

taking EDP gamble at USC myself

What is the gamble? I'm not too familiar with the early decision process...

as far as I can tell, is that if you do not get in, the earliest you can apply to any other school is October 1, which puts you somewhat late in the application process. In reality, it probably has you interviewing for waitlist spots at those other schools rather than open spots. Just my guess. I decided not to take the gamble because I thought that if I failed, my chances of getting in anywhere else would be greaty reduced.

Just a guess.

EDP is not a good idea unless you are super super competitive and dont want the hassle of applying to other schools.
It DOES NOT increase your chances of getting into the school.
You have a better shot of apllying to the one school normaly than EDP.

Thats not so cut and dry. While i understand what you're saying, there are some state schools out there in which your chances of acceptance are substantially higher if you apply EDP since they see your commitment to wanting to serve "instate", and dont require you being some uber exceptional applicant. For example, if you're deadset on Medical College of Georgia it has in years past been statistically easier to get in through EDP than through regular admissions. Obviously that doesnt apply to all schools, public or private...........
