What is everyone's take on EDP, is it worth it, and do your chances increase? I want to do EDp just am afraid about the fact I cant apply to any other schools till Oct, which is the equiv of taking an Aug MCAT.

anyone...?

Well....

My take on early decision is that it rocks, but I'm biased b/c I applied and was accepted through the program at my state school.

I'd say the best thing about it is that if you get in, you know what you're doing so much earlier than everyone else. Many of my friends who applied regular decision at schools are still in limbo, and starting to really stress. While I've have known my plans for next since Oct. 1st. As a result, this year has turned out to be really low key and enjoyable.

But I never had any really grand aspirations for med school. I didn't really care where I went and want to stay instate after I graduate, so the program made a lot of sense for me.

Also, my state school really likes early decision applicants. They take basically everyone that interviews (normally around 40 people). So you have a really good shot at admission if you get an interview. Not all schools are like this, however. Some are really competative and exclusive, so it's be worth it to find out about how your school views it early decision applicants.

Good luck,
S

I was thinking about Mt. Sinai early decision, but have no clue as to the difficulty of being accepted during EDP. If its reasonable I will apply early, but it solely depends on my chances sicne I dont want to be held up. Anyon have any stats on EDP for Mt Sinai, especially mcat/gpa stuff.

That may be true in most cases, but is not always the case. I applied regular decision to around 10 schools and submitted all of my materials ASAP. By Oct. 15th I had attended three interviews and had been accepted to two of those schools. I am by no means a superstar applicant, and doubt that my good fortune is entirely common, but it just shows that early decision does not always guarantee that you will suffer from less stress than those applying regular decision.

Early decision is a good idea for some people with highly compelling reasons for wanting to attend a school. If you're applying as a couple, early decision can work to your benefit, if you are instate (except CA, NY, and TX because they have the biggest applicant pools) then early decision is a good way to go if you're SURE that you won't want to go anywhere else.

I did EDP at my state school and it worked out perfect. They interviewed about 20 app. and I have not talked to anyone who did not get in.
