I'm probably a month or two away from setting up my elective rotations and basically had a few questions........my school gives us like 6-7 months of electives.

1. if i wanna do a non-competitive specialty like FM or something like that, is it necessary for me to "audition" for my elective rotations 4th year or can i just apply and get in if my score meets the program's requirement.

2. what are the EASIEST in terms of hours/days off rotations one should look into if he's looking for the most laid back M4 year possible? many people say M4 is easy but i would imagine it varies from location. every location has different rules in terms of hours and time off, etc... i've heard rads and path are really easy, maybe psych too.

basically how do i find out what the easiest electives are? i'm looking at most for like 9-5 M-F but if there's anything easier than that i'd jump on it right away as well.

For real though at my institution, 4th years talk about rads as a vacation rotation

It was a vacation rotation for me. I could be out by 9 AM and it didn't matter.

But rotations are institution-specific, depending on how they're structured. Best resources are your seniors because they may have stumbled upon hidden gems.

ok so from what i've gathered i should probably talk to my upperclassmen for question #2.... any thoughts on question #1? thanks.

For me endocrine consults (maybe 5 consults per week), Rads, Pathology, we have a bedside ultrasound rotation thats like 3 hours per day M-F, EMS is once a week, lots of chill rotations
