Hey. I just wanted to find out what the easiest secondaries are. I don't want to waste time if I don't have to.

Cheers

well it depends. are you already done with some secondaries so that you can recycle essays? the best way is to check the threads, the first post on each thread has the secondary essay prompts.

also, realize that some schools will send you a secondary almost immediately, while others will take over a month. you can read thru the threads, but this may be harder to determine.

Do a search. There are threads listing schools with no essays. Boston and University of Cincinnati to name a couple. Otherwise if you want essays that are similar to ones you may have already written, just click on the threads in this forum. But hopefully you're applying to schools you actually want to attend, not just because their secondaries are 'easy'. Unless you have the $ to burn.

It isn't actually a waste of time to write essays for secondaries. Most of them really help the school get to know you. For someone without a numerically stellar application, not being able to write any essays explaining what makes you a good fit and why you really want to go there can be a big disadvantage.

That being said, Duke's secondary could really use a character limit so neurotic people like us know when to stop.

Einstein, UCSF, and Harvard get my Gold Star Award in the easiest secondary category.

It can get even easier: Mayo.

(Einstein still requires you to click some buttons, UCSF requires an envelope/stamp, Harvard requires an essay if you've taken a year off)

Yeah, I just meant of the schools I applied to.

On the flip side, I give Brown, Duke, and UChicago an F in this category.

The ultimate dubious distinction goes to UC San Diego. I give them an F- for "Please re-write your personal statment, without re-writing your personal statement. And make it longer this time." 🙂

LOL, i think Duke wins hands down; right next to Johns Hopkins. but hey, it's a good way of weeding people out.

I applied to Harvard's HST program, and I also had issues with their interface and formatting, so it was definitely not easy for me. University of Rochester did require next to no effort, though. Secondary = answer some questions about legacy.

To be fair I think UChicago takes the essays you write very seriously.

I'd say Loyola's wins for easy. Only 8 questions, and they tell you to limit your response to 25 lines!

How about FSU's essays? Only 8 of them at 500 words each....

UCSF - i needn't elaborate
Penn Med - provide a little more detail on a few activities from primary app
Einstein - couple of lines on what you've done since graduating/what you'll be doing in the upcoming year
Drexel - repeat your work, clinical, volunteer history from primary app
NYMC - so easy i don't remember
Baylor - expand upon something from primary app
Cincinnati - what you've done since grad + what you'll be doing in upcoming yr
Jefferson - couple of sentences on anything additional you want to share
Dartmouth - plans for upcoming year and anything else you want to share

SLU, Vermont, LSU-NO (not like that one applies to most people, though ), Baylor (but only if you have something to talk about)
-those were the ones that I thought had the least writing, but I found some other ones' questions really suited to my preference (Emory, UVA, Pitt, VCU)

Look at University of Kansas. How does it rank up with these? (yes, I know few people will need to apply there)

OU's secondary doesn't have any essays. Just documentation of state ties, some biographical information... and another $65 fee. 🙂

Wisconsin, Buffalo, vermont and albany i remember not being too bad.
