So what are some easy things you can do to boost the impression you leave on your interviewer?

Apart from how you dress.

Be confident, respectful, and humble. So, stand up straight, make constant eye contact and firm handshakes are the basics.

Other than that and be prepared but not rehearsed, I'm not sure. I'm sure others will have better responses.

I totally agree. When I did a pt school interview, I tried to smile as much as I could, and I think it connected with the interviewers. I hope I find med school to be similar and not like those frightening interviews you hear about from the top schools

While sitting in the waiting room for my top choice med school interview last cycle, I had about 15 cups of water (no joke). It was a running joke between me and the other interviewees 🙄

The same way everyone deals with their stress reactions/nervous habits. Practice.

The dentist recommended solution for dry mouth is biotene dry mouth . I haven't tested it for any type of interview, but it definitely works daily. I think my dry mouth will override even prescription meds at a med school interview.

Not to geek out, but it comes from sympathetic stimulation. Might help to listen to some relaxing music and not think so much.

Don't be a robot; have some personality and try to have fun. These interviewers are taking time out of their lives volunteering to interview you. At least give them a show.

Dress sharply, be clean shaven (if you have a beard, make sure it is tidy), smell good (but not too strong), always smile (don't stop), always make eye contact, answer in complete sentences (if you're from the south like I am it is hard to do!), and don't pretend like you know things you don't.

This was a secret I planned to keep to myself. Oh well 😉

Definitely feel free to ask if you can take a moment to formulate your answer. I was asked what I thought the next war would be about, and I asked for a moment (more like 30 seconds) to come up with my answer. I also related my answer back to a personal experience and the reactions were favorable. I am now attending that school 😉

Don't wear anything on your wrists/fingers or your hair down if you have nervous fidgeting habits. One girl sitting across twirled her hair through most of the interview. It drove me crazy and she probably wasn't even aware she did it!

^ to add to that, this one guy in my group interview at LECOM had a pen in his hand while he was talking, and that pen shook so much that's all I could focus on.

One of suggestion I have gotten is to keep professionalism throughout the interview process. Even when whoever is doing the interview is being relaxed and friendly. You always need to show a level of respect.

Do NOT babble!

Show that you're thoughtful and contemplative.

If you're bright and it shows, we'll pick up on that.

Be interested in the other interviewees, if in a panel interview.
