Hey guys, I have an EBM presentation coming up on the 10th and I have been wracking my brain trying to think of a good topic and coming up with a whole lot of nothing. We are in our cardiac unit right now so I'd kind of like to stick along those lines, but I'm not sure what I want to talk about. What do you guys think would be a good topic? I was thinking maybe something having to do with trauma, maybe like tamponade or something, when to do pericardiocentesis vs thoracotomy... I'm so bad at thinking up topics!!

Lots of options, however, trauma literature is a bit less ripe w/ good evidence.

You could either try to answer a cutting edge question w/ emerging (imperfect) evidence, or look at our practice and examine the trial(s) that support what we do where there is good evidence.

Cardiology?
Coronary CT for low risk chest pain
low risk chest pain in general

chest pain choice article
http://www.theheart.org/article/1383105.do

utility of stress testing
facilitated PCI
therapeutic hypothermia for post CV arrest
timing of hypothermia (ex. EMS)
heparin for NSTEMI
beta blockers for AMI
CCB vs. BB for a fib
rate vs. rhythm control for new onset a fib
etc.

Some more chest/cardiac ideas:
- TPA for moderate PE - some nice trials to discuss for this one.
- Use of troponin in blunt chest trauma
- Size of chest tube: big vs pigtail in trauma
- heparin vs LMWH for ACS
- Anticoagulation options for Afib
- Management of pericarditiis: in/outpatient, drugs
