Hi. I was just wondering if someone could look over my EC's and tell me what I could do to improve my list. I'm not applying until the next year's cycle so I have a bit of time. This list is the plan of what I should have completed by the time I apply.

-I will have 18 months research experience in a molecular biology setting. Our research is clinically focused. No publications yet.
-I will have a bit more than a year of weekly clinical volunteering. My work does involve contact with patients. Should have +200 hours.
-I will have about 2 years of volunteer tutoring English to immigrants.
-Treasurer of a science-based club for 1 year
-One year experience tutoring peers in science courses.
-I've been active in intramural sports for 3 years, winning two championship titles. The sports were volleyball, indoor soccer, and football.
-Nothing formal, but I do compose music via my piano/keyboard/synthesizer during my down time. Not sure if this is relevant.

No shadowing yet, but trying to get some in before the fall semester. Originally, I had thought my tutoring peers would qualify as leadership experience, but I'm not entirely sure. If not, I'm lacking in that department. Any insight would be appreciated.

Much obliged

You're already looking pretty competitive, hon. If you want leadership experience - which may be the only thing you're missing - I'd suggest you go for something that interests you. Maybe start a musical composition group at your school? Arrange a blood drive? Coordinate with your school's women's resource center for a sexual assault awareness month?

The possibilities are endless. Find something you'll enjoy and MAKE it a leadership experience.

I would list the musical composition. Put it under Artistic Endeavors if you share the results with others, otherwise, list it as a Hobby.

I would list the tutoring under Teaching. Find a Leadership role elsewhere. Janieve has some good ideas. You can also look at the MDApps link under some members' avatars to see what they've done if you want more inspiration.

Okay, thanks for the help! Also, something just struck me. In the laboratory I work in, the PI has informally assigned me the task of initiating new lab assistants, i.e. training them. Should this fact be made known on my application, and could it possibly qualify as leadership?
