Hello SDN,

I wanted to get your input on my EC to see if it is strong enough or if I should continue working/volunteering.

I am a non traditional student-degree in health science (epidemiology based) and am now in post bacc program. My undergrad GPA is 3.4. I am in my first semester of post bacc, so no sGPA as of yet.

My goal is to get into an MD school, so what are my chances looking like?

Here are my ECs:

Research:

1. Wayne State University School of Med- SURE (summer undergrad research experience)
- Did research on protein cytochrome c
2. Western University School of Osteopathic Med
- Did research on TAC-SK2

Clinical:

1. ER volunteer - 150 hrs
2. Shadow neurologist - 50 hrs
3. Shadow MD at rehab center - 100 hrs

Other:

1. Math/bio/physics tutor (all entry level classes (eg 101))
2. Golf instructor

Keep it up with the ER and you're fine.

Your background and ECs are eerily similar to mine! golf instructor included. Just wondering, how were you a bio/physics tutor if you never took the courses? And sure you have no sGPA from your major?

Over how many months did you volunteer in the ER?

Could you add an office-based primary care doc? (8-10 hours would be fine). Will you be able to acquire a DO LOR, which is required or recommended at some DO schools?
With straight As in the postbacc, what will your application GPA look like?
Consider adding some regular, off-campus nonmedical community service for a cause you care about in your local region.
The teaching and research look good. Perhaps consider a peer leadership experience if an opportunity comes along.

Just wondering, how were you a bio/physics tutor if you never took the courses? And sure you have no sGPA from your major?
Good question.
