Hello everyone,

I am a little nervous because I got late in this process and I am panicking a little (A LOT) at this point. I submitted my Texas secondaries by late August and I am sending most of my OOS secondaries now (post labor day -9/18)

I realize that applying early is crucial in this process however due to some circumstances I could not get to them in time. I realistically want to know how bad my situation is at this point so I can look into other options.

I have only applied TMDSAS and AMCAS so far. I was not planning on applying ADCOMAS since I was late in the process but considering my situation, should I go ahead and fill its primary or is that also too late? 🥲

From what I am reading on reddit and SDN now, a lot of people mention that it is not worth sending more secondaries at this point as it is too late. Is that really the case?

Please advise! Thank you for your time! :) *sobs*

It's a year-long process. The people who say that are the same ones who say the MCAT has gotten harder since 2015. It hasn't because that's the opposite of a standardized test. There are schools that don't upload committee letters until September and they get in no problem. The premed community overestimates how far submitting in July and August gets you, just like they overestimate how are your LizzyM score alone gets you.

If you take the time to think it through, you'd realize this is a seller's market. Medical schools want nothing short of the best students representing them. The only reality check you need is being foolish enough to believe those rumors that emerged from shallow thinking.

Thank you! I feel a little relieved and hope that is the care. A part of me does feel that a few weeks (actually months before their secondary deadlines) should not be a dealbreaker, right? But then again it is my first time applying so I naturally panicked haha. I really hope that it works out :) I really appreciate your time again.

Welcome to the forums. We don't have a sense of your application profile. While there is some merit to understanding the process isn't so simple, many of us who have experience with the process have a better sense of what happens with applications sent later on.

SDN has articles too. You should read

Just finish what you have started. You won't get interviews if you don't at least make an attempt. Mission fit matters.

Apply to AACOMAS if you really feel you have to become a medical student by next fall and avoid being a reapplicant. However are you comfortable "settling" if the only school that takes you is a DO program?
