I'm a jr right now, planning on taking a gap year. I do not have any volunteering yet, but plan on doing clinical and non-clinical both this summer, and during my gap year. My question is, how will this be viewed that I'm only doing it this late... During my soph year (summer and winter) I accumulated manyyyy clinical work hours and enough shadowing. Freshman year I really only did clubs, (also did a few clubs soph year).

Having zero volunteer hours until a year before applying won't sit well with schools having a humanistic mission. Avoid applying to the Jesuit schools, Loma Linda, Rush, UUtah, etc.

Know that you can only put activities you have started on the application. If there’s some great volunteering you will do but it’s in September, you’ll have to save it and hope the schools you want accept updates (or if that’s when you submit secondaries, it can usually go on there)
