What are some ECs do you do on the weekends? I am having a hard time to find some ECs to do on the weekends.

Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions.

Update: Other than volunteering, what are some of the unique ECs are you doing on the weekends?

you can enroll in the School of Life. I hear they are offering classes in having fun and making friends.

hahaha good advice.

My normal ECs on weekends include eating ridiculous amounts of food, watching tv and drinking beer.

I volunteer at the ER 4 hours on Saturday and 3 hours on Sunday. Still plenty of time for beer + friends, but something productive to do as well.

This.

A lot of ERs have trouble filling slots on weekends. If you do Friday or Saturday nights you get to see a whole bunch of cool/crazy stuff - and you're a volunteer, so you still have time to do stuff afterward.

I did Sunday afternoons, which was a good time since I was able to sleep late and get motivated to (maybe) try and study tonight.

Well, in Canada,

The mornings are reserved for Premiership Saturday and Super Sundays.

The afternoons, meh, if my friends come over we can chill.
If not, just do whatever I feel like.

You premeds are reallly gung ho huh.

Well you can do some volunteering...when I did mine on the weekends ( which wasn't often), I did 7-11 am and then had the rest of the day off to do whatever. Off the top of my head, another thing that happens on weekends is habitat for humanity if you're interested in getting involved in that. I'm sure soup kitchens etc. won't say no to extra help either.

The only volunteering I did that I listed on my app was helping to build trails in a park here in philly. I love hiking and mtb so this was basically fun disguised as trailwork.

Find something you LIKE TO DO tennisball. Do you ski? Volunteer helping out disabled kids in the slopes...etc. I dont get why so many people on SDN do this bull$hit for the sake of looking good on paper when you can kill 2 birds with one stone: having fun while volunteering.

But as others posted...you are a freshmen in college. You are never getting that back. I remember partying freshmen year and saying "omg i cant believe I am in college..woooooo." Again..you wont get that back.

I dunno, they party pretty hard in the Caribbean ;p

Hmm...i thought the Ecs on the weekend thing was just a general question. If you're a freshman (OP, not you willen), please HAVE FUN. Go out and do fun adventurous things. And definitely volunteer in something you enjoy! I liked my hospital volunteering. My only other major volunteering gig was a month long overseas social and medical missions trip. It was AWESOME. If you don't like what you're doing, you'll come to detest it. So have fun. And get off Sdn and don't come back until your junior year. this is for your own sanity.

Do you do nothing for fun at all? Meaning sports, or instrument, or hobby?

I'm a PC gamer and even I've found ways to avoid putting that on my app. I've been playing guitar for about 5 years and even something as informal as jamming with a few people every week can be put on your app

I do fun acitivities during Mon-Fridays. That's why I am planning to do ECs on the weekends.

Most of the best ECs are fun activities for those involved with them. If you are opposed to traditional things like volunteering at a hospital, then take one of your interests and move it out into the community. If you like the arts, volunteer at a local theatre/gallery/museum. If you like kids, volunteer at a Saturday camp as a tutor. If you like to write, try to find a gig with a local newspaper. The number of things you can do is endless.

Just figure out what makes you happy.

1) What are your "fun activities"? (If it's a sport/hobby etc, it probably counts!!)

2) If your fun activities are just partying or hanging, maybe try switching your weekend and weekday plans around??
