I am very proud of the fact that I was a playboy centerfold 2 years ago. I am now debating whether or not to include this in the EC section of my amcaas next year. It is something that could set me apart, but could also be looked down upon by adcom's. Wanna get a feeling for this early. Please help!

Skiz knot, to put it in your application would be insulting to the adcom members' intelligence. Everybody knows about this outstanding achievement of yours, it would be like Pamela Anderson Lee saying "oh, I was a centerfold..." on her med school application. My advice: if your reputation preceeds you, don't speak for yourself, let it speak for you. One suggestion would be to pick the best 2x2" section from your centerfold pic and submit it as your pic for your secondary app.

That should be no problem. I used to be a porno movie actor before applying to medical school. I used that to my advantage by saying that I feel comfortable with the human body so anatomy will be no problem, and performing physical examinations on men and women would come easy. I'll be starting medical school in the fall! Don't worry. Your chances are excellent.

Absolutely not.

The benefits of setting yourself apart are far outweighed by the risks...especially in a field as conservative as medicine.

Firstly, we need to see a pic of you to dtermine whether that should go in the applications. Second, don't mention it--it's not conservative. I don't think the adcoms would like it. But it is to your advantage to dress well on the interview, because attractiveness could play a big role in your getting admitted, if the interviewer is attracted to you.

I could have sworn you were a guy.

I used to be a serial murderer before applying to medical school. I stated that my past history of killing others was a strong motivation for now wanting to save lives. The adcomms ate it up!

Yeah, I could see that. Not only does this EC explain your motivation to enter medicine, but it indicates a superior level of determination, drive and creativity.

This is beside the point, but skiz, is your avatar a radiohead thing?

I think it depends on the composition of the ADCOM. If there are some women on the ADCOM (who feel threatened by your beauty), they will likely blackball you. If it's all men, I think it will work to your advantage.

i would say to put that in your app. i mean anyone can volunteer in a hospital...but not everyone can be in playboy....isnt that considered a first author publication almost? its a pretty respectable journal too....

This is a good question, but it seems just like asking if you should mention that you were involved in clubs. Involvement is OK, but they are really looking for leadership experience. I think you will really be ahead if you can DIRECT some, er, "adult" movies and put that in your resume.

Not as far as I know! I just found it online, thought it was cooo....

Skiz, it's not worth mentioning unless you were the Sports Illustrated cover girl.

😛

You were seriously a playboy centerfold and now going to med school that's amazing.

Gotta love the trolls on this forum. It makes a nice break from the stressful admissions process just to laugh at the insanity of it all. Had to crack a smile at this one.....I mean, come on, it's original at least! Far better than the, "I was a malpractice lawyer and decided to go to med school when I realized how many people I was hurting". :meanie: 😉

if you're not joking around here, you are going to stick out like a sore thumb no matter which med school you go to.

lol!

i have serious doubts about whether a playboy centerfold would have nothing better to do than post to this forum every two minutes, given her busy schedule preparing for photo shoots and studying for tests... but i suggest you put in on your app - hey, you might fool a few adcoms, you never know.

yeah i really doubt she is a playmate. we need a month/year or name in order to verify along with a picture (and it obviously doesn't have to be a nude one either).

I don't believe it at all. On a side note, real college girls #1 from hustler videos is actually filmed on the USC med school campus.

Hey Sniken you must have been a GAY PORN movie star!

Seriously though, there was a girl in playboy from the Univ of South Dakota a few years ago who was in Playboy. It was nice.

Don't include it, why would being a playboy centerfold help you get into a medical school.

lol is this real? if thats true she would probably distract everyone in that hospital (aka guys)

only after that we can prescribe if
centerfold is helpful or not.

If you can't find an intelligent, mature, and inoffensive way to pull it off in an interview, then I say don't mention it at all, because you never know what those interviewers will ask you about.

okay on a sort of related (and 100% serious) note...what about modeling. i am a commercial print model. my agency does mostly ad campaigns for stuff like cameras, computers, wine, some sports wear, stuff on billboards or the little pictures on the disposable camera boxes, the younger kids and the mother/father types do stuff for toy companies. anyway...is this something that i should not let anyone know about? it's not exactly playboy (not even close!) i think it has made me tougher. having people evaluate you on such a superficial- yet personal level is a very humbling experience. you get rejected more than you get hired and you have to be able to move on and stay confident.

I used to be a male model, particularly for underwear and for upscale men's clothing. It didn't hurt my chances. I told the adcoms that I felt comfortable with my body, which will make me comfortable taking care of other people's bodies. I start med school in the fall! Your chances are excellent.

Well, that sounds like a part-time job. I think you have to state all your previously held jobs on your application. Anyways it sounds harmless and the agency you work at sounds wholesome.

I would only mention it if you also allude to the fact that you'd do "anything" to get into med school.

you will definitely get into any medical school if you get a recommendation from Hugh hefner

Now can you imagine the interview hehe "says here you were a playboy centerfold? What year and month....Ahh yes I have that 🙂, I thought you looked familiar. Have you been working out? Those thighs look a little thinner from the last time saw them." LOL I mean the jokes are endless 🙂

I don't think you should put it down because even if the interviewer isn't put off by it, the decision is often made as a group decision where the interviewer presents his case for you to the committee. If being a centerfold offends others on the committee, then you've lost votes.

K, maybe you guys need to pick up a playboy 🙂
