Working, shadowing, and volunteering are good enough. More importantly, it's how long you spent doing each of them not how many ECs you have, imo.bkpa2med said:

If you like research, it will be a good EC especially if you can get publications.

Something different. A lot of interviewers seemed interested in my heavy involvement with music and martial arts. They seemed to be pleased to meet someone with a broad variety of interests. Just don't spread yourself out too much.
