My group elects our leaders (med directors). We pay our med directors and the hospital has no input on who our directors are. From the hospital side nursing staffing we work collaboratively.

As a medical director, I can assure you that we go out of our way to support our docs. The hospital administration and CEO of our health system also supports us. There is a push from administration to the hospitalists, primary care providers that still admit, and specialists that they must return calls promptly and support our door-to-door/door-to-floor metrics, which usually involves allowing us to write bridge orders to get patients upstairs quickly.
