I'm applying next cycle and I know that some MD schools have what's called an Early Decision Program. I was wondering if this was true for DO schools as well.

If so-

1. Does OSU-COM have a program like this?

2. Can you still turn in your AMCAS application, even though you are waiting for a DO school to accept you?

3. How late in the cycle will this put me if I don't get in?

Thanks in advance...

I know at least some DO schools have it but not sure about OSU. Isn't it too late to apply EDP since generally they're supposed to let you know by Oct 1, which would be Monday?

I'm applying next cycle. Thanks for your response, I'll make that clear in my post.

Yeah that's why I deleted because I figured out from your MDApps that you're applying for next year. I would check the different schools' websites because I'm really not sure about which ones have it or not.

Okie dokie...thanks!

1. I am not sure.

2. It is generally not accepted practice to apply MD or DO EDP and apply to the other, either DO or MD. I thought about it and looked into it. They may not be able to find out, but you are not supposed to do it. Additionally, OSU asks you what other 'professional' schools you applied to that year on their secondary which would include MD schools.

3. I believe EDP programs are supposed to notify you by Oct 1st. The people I have known who were accepted EDP found out exactly on Oct 1st. You can not apply to other schools until Oct 1st if you were not accepted to your EDP school. I am not so good at speculating how late this would put you in the application season.

They are totally separate.

Thank you! That helps a lot!

That's why I asked. So, is that a yes?

It is not accepted practice although I do not believe anyone would find out.

mmmk. I see, I don't think I would be able to sleep at night if I actually did that anyway. lol. Thanks for the tip. I've looked on OSU's website and couldn't come up with much, so I'm still waiting for an OSU-COMer to hear my cry! 😉

Yeah, if Nebraska likes me enough, I could possibly find out about an acceptance only 2 weeks after the EDP people. I really do not understand the benefits of EDP other than saving money but then you run the risk of not getting accepted and then rushing around in October applying and getting in secondaries. My pre-med advisor told me the acceptance rate for EDP is about 50% as apposed to about 30% for in-state so there aren't really huge advantages there either. It just doesn't make much sense to me all the way around. Maybe there is something I'm missing though.

Good luck with OSU. I visited there in April and really liked it!!

Thank you! The one thing I REALLY liked about it, is that you know if you're in or not by Oct. 1st! That's a huge plus! And only applying to one school, therefore only submitting one application. That would save me LOTS of $$$. But I definitely see the negative side too. I guess I still have a little while to decide.

I think it is definately good for someone who knows for sure that they are interested in one school way more than any others and that person has above average stats which for my case, I have neither of those.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I know OSU is the prefect fit for me, I just need to find a way to get in, ya know? I still have to take the MCAT too, so that will tell me a lot. Kaplan course, here I come! haha

Congrats on your Kansas acceptance!

Thanks! I definately recommend applying there!
