Here is a situation that an FMG would luv some feedback on

If you fail an MSIII core, what will the effect be on obtaining a residency program in anesthesia, provided that there are no other fails, all other MSIII and MSIV cores and electives have straight A's, and 80th+percentile Step Scores? I have documentation and letter's of rec from the failed course 😕 (the whole thing is VERY suspect), that would be provided to every gas program i apply to. (I luv anesthesia, and am dying to get into it ANYWHERE- alaska would be fine if they had a program)

Any light on the situation would be a huge help
thanx

not sure how that would effect things, but my only advice would be to make sure you have a clear explanation as to why you failed a course because you most likely will be asked about it during interviews.

Most fmg's I know with boards <85 barely got any interviews this year to begin with. If the rest of your application was sparkling (it doesnt sound like it with low 80's) it probably wouldnt matter, so just make sure you apply to something else like IM as a backup. 2 of my friends had to scramble into bottom of the barrel spots this year because they didnt match gas and had no backup plan, and both of them had better numbers than you did.

Thanks for responding

CircleK, you are right, as that is somethign that i am prepared to do. My concern is whether it will affect me getting interviews ? Any thoughts?

soon2bdoc2003, your insights are similar to what i've heard. But i don't particularly care where i go, or if i have to scramble, as long as i can get a gas program. Several people i know with almost identical numbers to mine, matched gas. Out of curiosity, what did your two friends match into?

Thanx again
