I graduated from a U.S. college (UCLA) but want to go to medical school in Egypt.. Thinking of applying to either MUST or O6U, the two notable private schools.

Are these schools accredited? Namely in California? I've done a lot of research but am hitting conflicting results.

I'm wondering what is the general opinion on studying medicine in Egypt? I want the option to return to the U.S. and practice to be left open.

I am not an Egyptian citizen so I don't have to worry about the army/military obligations.

Any Egyptian med students/grads.. please feel free to share your opinions.

Thanks.

My father went to medical school in Egypt. He immigrated to the U.S. in his late twenties and it was a long uphill battle for him to get a residency.

He specialized though, so it might be easier if you want to do primary care.

If you have the chance of going to med school over here I'm pretty sure my dad would agree that you should take it

Not the best place to post this - I'd look in the International forums on here. If you want to practice in California, you have to be boarded by an ACGME-accredited program. Pretty sure that whatever you did in Egypt, you would still have to take the USMLE Steps and gain acceptance to an U.S. residency program. Like I said, the International forums are your best bet.

Okay, thanks. Posted there as well.
Still interested in hearing from any students/grads of that system..

i'm an egyptian med student (in a US MD school) and i know many egyptian doctors (educated in egypt) who came to america and had to either redo med school or settle for a not-so-desirable option. basically the rule of thumb is don't leave the US if you want to practice in the US. beyond the Caribbean there are very few med schools that are accredited in the US and I don't think any of them are in Egypt.

Out of curiousity, why do you want to go to med school in egypt??

If your interest is to work in Country A. Then its best to attend medical school in Country A and not Country B. Basically combine that with the whole new match system they will soon be implementing and FMG's will be even more disadvantaged. So I wouldn't recommend that.

Btw I'm also going to point out that this site tenures towards US medical students. Not FMG's, maybe ValueMD will be better able to help you with your questions. Further more I'm also curious why Egyptian medical schools? Do you even speak Arabic to a high enough comprehension to effectively succeed in a Egyptian medical school?
