can anyone shed some insights between these two? where would you go if you had to choose?

both are highly underrated but excellent schools. I would probably pick U of R simply because I'd rather live in Rochester than the Bronx, but that's just me.

Are you Jewish? And if so, How religious? A very large proportion of the students at Einstein are Jewish, and many are orthodox, or very into the faith. If you are not Jewish, or really involved in the religion, you may find it difficult fitting in at Einstein. I would take Rochester because Einstein is located in a crummy neighborhood and the facilities seemed a bit run-down to me

Univ. of Rochester hands down. They have excellent facilities, super supportive community and CHEAP cost of living. That said, both schools are excellent although highly underrated. Being from the NYC area, I would be very tempted to go to Einstein but I think if I had to make a decision that Rochester would win out in the end.

i would actually go with einstein. i thought it had a more chilled out vibe than rochester; the students i met with at einstein were the happiest of those i've seen on any tour day. some factors which might influence your decision: class size (einstein is on the large side, rochester on the small side), location (urban v. suburban), curriculum structure, hours in class, etc.

Einstein. Very close to Manhatten, not a bad part of the Bronx, friendly students and faculty, not as cold.

einstein also has a much better match list and a great housing arrangement....its gonna be a tough call

I dare to say rochester is more of a ghetto than the bronx.

I also might be ignorant, but its experience talking.

Einstein, better opportunities and match.... and you get the city

Oh yea, I forgot how good and cheap Einstein's housing is. A big plus for living in NYC.

Not really.... have you ever been to the area around U of R? It's a very nice neighborhood and the URMC has a large presence in the community. There are sections of Rochester that are pretty dangerous and rundown, but these neighborhoods are far from where the main medical campus is.

sooooooooo...einstein it is

i used to work with a very non-jewish asian doctor UC Berkeley grad who went to einstein, and she liked it there a lot. just fyi

How are you "very non-Jewish"? Isn't it a yes or no (sometimes half) kind of thing?

i think he/she is just saying she wasn't jewish....

To the OP.

I can tell you want to go with Einstein. Do it. It is an awesome school for the many reasons cited above. I would have loved to go to that school, my top choice outside of California, unfortunately it was my first interview and I screwed it up.
