This is passage one of test 6 (I think this is correct, for the new version).

I have the old version, but have been doing 7 passages at a time, so technically this is Test 4 Passage 9 if you have the older version.

Regardless, it is the passage of the evolution of men and women. It talks about prehistory and history, and how most of our evolution takes place during the prehistory, where men were hunters and women were child bearers, etc.

(Warning: If you have not done this passage, I go on to discuss details, so stop reading).

What did you guys think of this passage?

Normally I miss 1 at most per passage, but I thought this one had ridiculous answers, that I still feel like I could argue with.

Example:

The last two answers contradict each other.

Question 6 says how his theories are inapplicable to the modern world, but Question 7 says this would not be an explanation of why many people do not follow his trend.

I started out getting 8s on EK 101 and a 9 on AAMC 3.

However, I have recently gotten a 12 and a 10 on two EK 101 tests, and 11 on AAMC 4, 10 on AAMC 5 and a 14!!! on AAMC 6.

My confidence is shaken. Was I the only one that had problems with this passage, or EK 101 in general?

And the question about why men's traits are bold, dominant, etc. while women are friendly, etc.

Do the writers know what introverted and extroverted even mean (or do I)?
I always thought those to mean outgoing or kind of shy.

I thought it would have something to do with strength, since men want to express their dominance over others while women, who are not able to express dominance since they seem to be weaker, are more friendly.

And with the question about the unstated assumption:

It seems as though, according to the passage, men were the ones who became hunters and established their roles, while females just took everything left over, which shows how men predominantly determined evolution.

How was humankinds evolution outstripped by civilization? It's not like humans stopped evolving, what does this even mean?

Sorry all, I am just a bit frustrated that I missed 5/7 questions, but don't even really understand why I missed half of them.

bump2...

I have taken AAMC exams, and the verbal I miss on those, I understand.

These, and in general the others that I miss on EK, I just don't see it. Anyone else have this problem?

Hey, I don't think many people are using the old version. I looked through Test 6 in my EK 101 book (it's the 2nd edition, though) and I didn't see that passage/question. Sorry, hope someone else who has the older version can chime in?

How much of EK 101 have you done?

Maybe they changed the order of the passages. It might be end of Test 5 then.

I have done tests 1-11, so I still have to do 12-14. I don't like EK verbal as much as I used to...I started off with a 9...got mostly 9's, a few 8's, and like two 7's...got a 10 once or twice though. Is it just me or do the tests become ridiculous/a bit harder after halfway into the book? I feel like some of the answers are HIGHLY debatable and the explanations for some of them are REALLY bad/crappy.
