For those who have already done EK 101 test 7, for q #18, does anyone understand why the answer is B?

The passage is about how the author has never accomplished anything significant while many people around him are successful.

#18. According to the author, his perceptions of his shortcomings were in large part the result of his:
A. Apathy
B. Unrealistic expectations
C. Being too late to do anything about them
D. Inability to write, choose stocks, or create ceramic art.

Using POE, A and D are out. I chose C because he keeps saying how he could have accomplished being a successful person if he had taken any action earlier. Answer choice B seems to require my own personal inference rather than answering based on his point of view (question clearly says, "according to the author", so his view..)

I thought I was the only one who felt weird about this question. I felt B was thinking in with my own opinion. If I remember, didn't the author even state in the passage that it was too late?
